I feel you are who you are around! If you hang around trash, You will be trash. If you surround yourself with people of good nature, You will find yourself amongst them and trying to pass on 'good nature'.

I like the phrase used on the movie 'Trading Places', Anyone can be flipped around and turn out to be a product of their bad environment! The village shapes who you will be/are too!

 

I don't get all this group association stuff. You don't deserve credit or blame for anything good or bad any white person has ever done, with the exception of close friends or relative that you may have profoundly influenced.

None of my ancestors have ever crawled out of a time machine and asked me what they should do about anything, so I feel like none of it has anything to do with me. Like you, I only take responsibility for my own actions and attitudes.

On the opposite side of the spectrum, I grew up in an upper middleclass community in the Northeastern united states and in a recent survey of my former hometown 68% of all adults living in the community had a 4 year degree or higher. I’m proud of where I grew up - nothing wrong with that.

i grew up in a small town where most people probably didn't have degrees. i was actually the first person in my extended family to earn a 4-year degree, and i went on to earn a master's and a Ph.D.

so maybe i should be even more proud of my accomplishments, since i had a few things going against me?

 

Just when things were finally starting to calm down in Mo. the Ferguson Police Department chose to throw gasoline on the fire by releasing the video footage of 18 year old Michael Brown allegedly shoplifting. It was a deliberate attempt not only to incite the populace to riot and resume their wanton destruction of private property and pillaging, but also a way to get back at the governor and state police who were showing them up .....


FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon declared a state of emergency and imposed a curfew Saturday in a St. Louis suburb where police and protesters have clashed in the week since a black teenager was shot to death by a white police officer.


Nixon said that though many protesters were making themselves heard peacefully, the state would not allow looters to endanger the community where 18-year-old Michael Brown was shot in a street. The curfew will run from midnight to 5 a.m. Sunday.
"I am committed to making sure the forces of peace and justice prevail," Nixon during at a press conference at a church that was interrupted repeatedly by people objecting to the curfew and demanding that the officer who shot Brown be charged with murder.
"We must first have and maintain peace. This is a test. The eyes of the world are watching," Nixon said. "We cannot allow the ill will of the few to undermine the good will of the many."

A good thing I did yesterday is nothing if i feel like shit today. A good thing I did yesterday feels like it never happened if I fuck up today. I do not swell with victory nor agonize in defeat. A citizen of nature i am never away from home sweet home and as the sun comes up I feel blessed and I am happy to be here. With no striving to win my estate or repute i have nothing to complain about which takes up our precious time in life so I have time to be kind.

 

I feel the same way growing up in an all-white community. My house was like Fort Apache surrounded on all sides by blood thirsty Indians (Only In my case money loving Jews) on the warpath out for our 401K and money market certificates.
