... are my favorites although I love all Victorian art. The Lady of Shalott is a painting of 1888 by the English painter John William Waterhouse. It is a representation of the ending of Alfred, Lord Tennyson's 1832 poem of the same name. Look at the detail in this work ... the candles at the stern of the boat and the tiny bird in the rushes bottom left ... beautiful!
Something about a great painting is so poetic and fanciful, yet undeniably real. I'm not familiar with art history, though. But I've seen this painting before If I can ever afford it, I hope to start painting again. My sister is a really good painter.
I like mixing colors together on a canvas; at least I once did... I don't know that I wouldn't be bored now actually. But when I was 14 or so, there was a painting project at boarding school, and I was fascinated! I painted something orange and black. But making the orange lighter or orange-er was fun. A copy of this Picasso hung in the school somewhere; I think above a couch.
Please do start painting again .... It is so relaxing. Paint for yourself and forget about an audience of viewers.
Mix vibrant colors and splash them about on a board or canvas. You'll be amazed at what you can produce!
This style is cool. I think it's by Monet. Claude Monet; yes. It's called "Flowers at Vetheuil"; which I'd be hard pressed to pronounce...
Monet was an Impressionist but he painted beautifully especially gardens. Not that this is his work but I got it mixed up in my reply. Sorry,
monet was a beautiful painter. I saw his paintings in Paris. Much of it was destroyed during WW2 and have been restored. I think 20% was saved and original? He had an amazing garden to paint as well I love Camille Pissarro also. His life & work touches my heart too.
The had a Van Gogh at the Getty Museum (southern California) one time. We went with my cousin and aunt. But anyway, they had this one: (I think maybe I picked a bad gif... doesn't show the whole painting, lol).
I have been to the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam. Amazing artist ... love him too. I know someone who has one of his paintings. His family buried it during WW2 so it wasnt destroyed. He is from the Netherlands.
