In China two people got the plague. Why is it still a thing? - CNN

Two people just got the plague in China — yes, the Black Death plague
    By Jessie Yeung, CNN
Updated 7:26 AM EST, Wed November 13, 2019

CNN)Two people in China are being treated for plague, authorities said Tuesday. It's the second time the disease, the same one that caused the Black Death, one of the deadliest pandemics in human history, has been detected in the region -- in May, a Mongolian couple died from bubonic plague after eating the raw kidney of a marmot, a local folk health remedy.

The two recent patients, from the Chinese province of Inner Mongolia, were diagnosed with pneumonic plague by doctors in the Chinese capital Beijing, according to state media Xinhua. They are now receiving treatment in Beijing's Chaoyang District, and authorities have implemented preventative control measures.

I thought that was easily treatable in modern times.

No meat, not problem. Another reason to consider becoming a vegetarian.

Actually, I had a Dominoes plant based Ham and Pineapple pizza the other night. They have only just introduced it here. And it was friggin delicious. Tasted better than actual ham. Im up for it if they can substitute meat like that nowadays

Maybe meat is for children and we are meant to grow out of it. That pizza is a good choice.

Eating infected meat ain't the only way to get plague. It's carried by fleas from rodents and is highly contagious. There were four deaths from it right here in the U.S.A in 2015, --two each in California and Colorado--the Calfironia cases traced to visitors to Yosemite National Park who apparntly came in contact with infected rodents. The CDC tells us there was an average incidence of 7 cases per year in the U.S. between 1970 and 2012, but the last epidemic was in California in 1924. Recently, there's been a lot of hype, fueled by sensationalist media "experts" like Doctor Drew and by right wing pundits, over the possibility of another epidemic in L.A., owing to the homeless and immigrant populations there and the trash that's supposedly attracting rats. I take this as largely political propaganda aimed at showing that Democrats are dangerously incompetent.

Parasites carrying parasites like fleas and mosquitoes have had their turn at multiplying and being fruitful and endangering human lives is the only place for them in the world today. I propose a man made annihilation of all such parasites. Let there be extinction.

Suz.. I was thinking the same thing..
Why are people out of favour with vaccination again?
Hang on.. is there a vaccine for the black death, or bubonic plague?
People cant be arsed getting their kids vaccinated for measles anymore, childhood illness... that's because your fortunate to not see kids die from measles any more!
German measles.. pregnant women who catch it risk their unborn baby being born blind!

    Get your jabs people!

I was vaccinated for the plague when I was in the Army. Every six months we’d get vaccinated for wherever the hotspots were in the world. Damn I hate getting shots.

It’s not that uncommon in China. Every couple of years there’s an outbreak of plague in China which is generally treated with antibiotics and the situation quickly goes away.

It’s much worse in Africa, more specifically in Madagascar where the plague kills on average 50-100 people a year.

The bubonic plague is the mildest form, followed by the pneumonic, then the more severe septicemic form which laid waste to 50,000,000 during the 14th century.
