I was just in the process of responding to this that I had never heard of him, then it dawned on me. It is a problem for both major parties, to say otherwise is to be ignorant. It is part of what keeps the duopoly in charge.

I think the Dems have been fighting hard for Corporations to keep things stagnant since 1996.

The Dems have become Corporate Democrats and pulled the party more towards the Right.

Many former Republicans are now declaring themselves Independent or moved in the Right side of the isle in the Democrat party, much like how the Southern Democrats / KKK abandoned the Dems in 1965, when LBJ signed the Civil Rights Act of 1965 .

The next show down will be between the Progressives and " Blue Dog " Democrats.

Trump has damaged the GOP beyond repair , at this point .

There's also prominent Democrats leaving the party, although most of the recent ones have just gone independent.

if someone advertises themself as a republican, then it means they are stupid and useless. like voting for rubber for tires, or like voting for polution for skies. it's meaningless, except it means that such a person will be anything anyone pays them to be, or nothing at all

As a Progressive, I am tired of the Corporate Dems " Dropping " the ball on the one yardline , on behalf of the Guardians of Plutocracy and the Donors that both parties receive monies from.
Jump aboard the GOP ship, is futile, they've shot holes in the bottom of their boat .
Trump is further destroying the GOP, they are in a slow motion train wreck, one that they will never recover from ....ever , unless the GOP can have a foreign enemy take hostages or form an alliance with our enemies to commit terrorism in our Country, and the GOP / MAGA will help our enemies .

Good, that way Progressives will totally take over the Democratic Party.
The GOP only serve the Big Money Donors and not serve the People... and it is now totally obvious to any rational voter out there.
MAGA/ GOP are not a rational, realistic or functional people and that's why Conservatism / Fascism is going extinct in 2024 .

By the way, Scarecrow, name the Dems leaving the party or are you going to throw things out there without having proof.
    If so, that would indicate the things ;
    1. Your a MAGA .
    2. From the Midwest .
    3. From the Deep South .

Kyrsten Sinema, Tulsi Gabbard (who got endorsements from progressives like Mike Gravel), Andrew Yang (who honestly doesn't fit well into any party).

Kyrsten Sinema cites Joe Manchin as a role model...good riddance.
    Tusi Gabbard....here's her rant:
In other words, a Lonney Tune.

Yang doesn't want to belong to any party except his own "Forward Party" which is more liberal than the Democratic Party as he promotes open primaries and ranked voting. ~ PBS

Notice none of them registered as a Republican.

You're right that both parties gerrymander and do whatever else it takes to win elections. If "duopoly" means that both parties are beholden to powerful rival coalitions of Fortune 500 companies and gazillionaires which seek to move national policy in directions favorable to their economic interests, right again! Lucky for us they're in competition. They can agree on keeping other parties out: the role of the Electoral College and state restrictions on parties getting onto state ballots. The role of the voter is relatively modest, but still important: to choose between the candidates backed by these rival coalitions. George Wallace was essentially correct that in the 1960s there wasn't "a dime's worth of difference" between the two of them. But that was then, this is now! We're more polarized than ever since the Civil War, and elections do matter!

One of the parties, the Retrumplicans, has since become a cult of personality that no longer bothers to put forth a platform on policies that it backs. It may complain about inflation and crime, but has no specific plans to do anything about them, and if elected to office, does nothing but attack Democrats. Its main corporate backers (through their PACs) include the NRA, opposing any limits on firearms; Big Tobacco; fossil fuels companies; General Motors; gaming casinos; and such individual donors as casino tycoon, Sheldon Adelson; Tea Party backer Charles Koch (who, commendably is trying to block a Trump nomination), and the reclusive hedge fund tycoon, Richard Mercer, who owns the alternative right wing news site Breitbart. Of course, the voting power for Retrumplicans comes from the Evangelical churches, who are willing to overlook Trump's likely criminality and sexual "peccadilloes" in exchange for judicial appointments. Democrats get their backing from high tech, healthcare, and media interests, and of course, such individual donors as George Soros (who Retrumplicans think rules the world), and various hedge fund managers like Donald Sussman (Paloma Partners) and James Simmons (Euclidean Capital). Defense industry companies like Raytheon, United Technologies and Lockheed-Martin divide their contributions between the two parties and friendly candidates. But Defense contractors ramped up PAC donations to Republicans who voted to overturn the 2020 presidential election results! https://thehill.com/business-a-lobb...ontractors-ramp-up-donations-to-gop-election/
Of course, Democrats also draw support from the various groups representing minorities and women.

U.S. Companies Donated to GOP Election Objectors Despite Vow, Group Alleges
And that's the way it is. But it can make a huge difference which coalition the voters decide to vote for. Do environmental regulation, social programs, civil rights, tax policies, health care, education, crime and abortion matter or not? There are real differences between the parties on those issues--not to mention the survival of democracy!

Man, the Guardians of Plutocracy is falling apart like a leper in a bounce house .
Look at Kevin McCarthy and the rest of the Trumpster Goof Troop, even if they ate a box box of violent laxatives in the Congress or Senate, they couldn't even pass gas , even if they attempted to do 20,000 sit-ups.

I know many people in Pueblo, Colorado, I used to live there.
Many of them were organizing a recall Laurie Bobert, their offices got vandilized and documents with signatures were stolen.
So they started from scratch and got all the signatures and some.

As soon as her people heard that, they had all the signatures to remove her, she decided to run in another district.
In the new district that she decided to run in, she is Polling very last, double digit last.

But which major party actually wants to end the wars and sending money overseas? It seems each party wants to end some of the wars but ramp up support for others. As you admit, they are both beholden to defense contractors. Beith4er one really cares much for civil liberties when it comes down to it. So really, they are "rivals" and have different areas of focus, but there is a reason that a majority of voters are registered independent.

Which party wants to sell out Ukraine, torpedo NATO, and kiss Putin's ass? Peace is a worthy goal, but not at any price. I thought we learned that with Hitler. Liberty and justice are worthy goals, too. Which party no longer bothers to produce a platform setting forth its principles, cuz it has none except the Führerprinzip: follow the leader? As for civil liberties, which party wants to establish a dictatorship under a moral and mental misfit who is above the law, and to fly the flag of Christian nationalism? For clues, see the Heritage Foundation's blueprint for a Retrumplican future a year from now in its Project 2025--Mandate for Leadership: A Conservative Promise, supported by a coalition of 100 far right groups. Basically, it's a drastic transition from democracy to a more authoritarian Christian natiionalist theocracy, friendly to big business an unfriendly to the environment, under their Dear Leader.
