ha, irongoth, I know exactly what you mean. the american version can try and be a contender, but it has great big humungus shoes to fit into - Ricky Gervais and Steven Merchant set the bar very high. But american tv can sometimes pull out stuff that's subtle and hillarious - look at Curb Your Enthusiasm.
whoops, i don't know these things...in NZ its screened on normal, don't have to pay for TV. As was the Office.
Very well said, its about time the big US channels gave the original british versions a chance. They try these remakes time and time again, and they invariably turn out rubbish (Coupling being the obvious example). These programmes are apparently very popular on BBC America, so I can't see them doing any worse than the remakes do. Good news that the second series of Extras has been confirmed, again part funded by HBO.
