I'd imagine they substitute the sodium for potassium - i.e. potassium chloride, which is still a salt, but not "salt" as we know it, Jim.

Just a bit! Dyed the wrong colour (completely) yanked a load out to make a nice bald spot, charged 80 quid when it was supposed to be 40...Now all the dye has washed out, my hairs a greasy wreck as its trying to repair itself, and I feel like crap. I cant even believe them. Ive been building up the courage to get a refund. I did already try, armed with before and after pictures of the colour, but got an oh so sweet "oh sorry about that, youll have to wait until next Friday when so and so (whoever the smeg) will be in and shell recolour it for you"
