You could have explained it to him, instead of calling him an ignorant redneck.

Anyways, can this be more annoying than ''juicy'' written all over someone's ass?

Well that post should be seen in its proper context I guess, I had some more discussions with that person and to me he seems just a typical dumb, egoistical redneck.

I don’t own any, but they seem to be of very good quality. I think the same of brands like Columbia and Patagonia. I don’t like wearing clothes that show the brand name, but I’ve never thought of anyone buying or wearing that brand as some kind of status symbol, but for practicality and functionality. When I see them I never think anything of the person but that they like to be comfortable and to stay warm.

unfortunately, NF has become a status & fashion symbol for yuppies. Yes, their gear is top notch, but unaffordable for me. NF gained status when mountain climbers used it on Everest. Then it became THE gear for mountain climbers to have, then next thing you know everyone's wearing one (on TV anyway).

Last jacket I bought was in New Zealand (I'd just come from Australia and needed some gear for NZ's weather.) It cost me $60 and it's probably the best jacket I've ever owned. I've yet to feel cold in it, in any weather.

Funny thing is the jacket was made in NZ! How rare! It even has a kiwi as a logo! :)

So you don't need to shell out big bucks for the likes of NF unless you're climbing Everest or have a BIG EGO.

Yuppies? Never seen one wear one. Most people I've seen them with, actually do spend a lot of time outside.

I don't think anyone here at my job has one, most people wear peacoats. I've seen them wear Penfield parkas though, they're cute, but not very warm.

Unaffordable for me to, but when yuppies get a little blemish or tiny snag in the material, they throw it out.
D-diving I found a NF 700 down vest in perfect condition save a tiny hole in the armpit which I patched invisibly...now folks can accuse me of flaunting my ego and wealth lol

The funny thing about it is that before I moved to this county I thought The North Face was a really inexpensive type of winter jacket because of the type of people that I would see them wearing them while walking around. Never once have I associated them with yuppies.

Perhaps it's fairer to say: Middle income earners with a higher amount of disposable income.
A brand new NF 700 down vest is approx £60-100.
You'll obviously always pay more for branded items.
My jacket isn't branded but it still cost £60.

I suspect NF have a good product placement team and that's why you see a lot of their gear on TV, and obviously others (news reporters etc) may have a clothing budget or be middle income earners with a higher amount of disposable income.

I prefer Caterpillar Jackets which are of similar quality and price but seem to be aimed at the more blue collar worker.

I can say i have never seen a TV promo for NF or add's unless at a store that sells them. IMO they didnt have to go out and pimp them, They brand and warmth did it itself.

I dont see where rich/poor come into play. My columbia cost over $300, But i have had it for many years, So break that down over the years.

Most save their money and buy quality the first time instead of two wally world coats. Nothing wrong with any, But id rather pay once and be done.

never had any north face products, but they seem to be pretty high quality. i really like the stuff from Mountain Equipment Co-op - everything i've purchased there has been great quality and most of it has a lifetime warranty. it's expensive, but spending twice as much as usual isn't that bad when it's going to last you for 20 years.

spending a lot of time outside does not disqualify you as a yuppie. some may wear the gear on their way to work, some for outdoor adventure, and others for both

if you've got the money to go on mountaineering expeditions and hire teams of sherpas to haul your gear, you're probably not hurting for cash

I should have been more specific and stated that they worked in the street. I don't see people going on expeditions when I'm going about my day.

one of the reasons people are seen wearing these beautiful jackets is because they are counterfeited like crazy.....look for brass buttons on the fakes as well as dog fur collars and chicken shit on the inside...ewwwww

Me? All I need is my flag, my chevy, my woman, and some boiled peanuts.

I guess I can't relate to a place where everyone is wearing North Face and no one is wearing them while outdoor adventuring. I've just never experienced that. People here that I see wearing their stuff aren't doing it for a fashion statement.

Though as far as fashion goes I appreciate that they make outdoor wear for women that actually looks feminine. Yeah, I like to be outdoors but I also still like to look like a woman.
