At the moment I am pretty sure that I am in the early stages of appendicitis. I was woken up last evening around 5:00 by a nagging, dull but burning pain in my stomach. At first I figured I just needed to use the bathroom, but to no avail as the pain continued throughout the evening. While the pain was not excruciating, it was enough to have me feeling really uncomfortable and it made going back to sleep impossible . So being off from work last night, I ran out to the store around 12:30 to get some Pepto Bismol, thinking it was possibly indigestion. It seemed to have helped at first, though only very slightly. It's now after 4 in the morning here and the pain seems to have subsided a bit, but has moved away from the middle of my abdomen to my lower abdomen, but especially the right side where the appendix is. The pain itself is no longer the nagging, burning sensation I was feeling before, but it's still there and seems to be affected more by movement now.

I am not going to lie, I am really fucking scared right now. I am not the biggest fan of doctors or hospitals, much less surgery, which I have not had since I was a young child when my adenoids were removed.

I am going to wait a little while longer to see if the pain subsides, and if it doesn't I am going to need to go to the hospital. So far I have no fever or vomiting, but that could change.

Please wish me the best. Thanks.

If It Has Moved It Sounds Like Something Moving Through Your Bowels.

I Experienced The Exact Same Problem A Few Months Ago And Like You I Feared

The Worst, But Over A Few Days The Pain Subsided And Never Returned.

Hope It Is The Same For You.... :)

    Cheers Glen.

    Good luck Rat;

It’s amazing even with all of our modern medicine no one is absolutely certain what the function of the appendix is; only that we can live without it.

Could be irritable bowel syndrome. Causes include red meat, spices and stress.

You really should be checked out by a doctor. Don't panic, be logical about it. Surgery really wouldnt be anything to worry about. Good luck PR!

quick test to check for appendicitis - rock back on the heels of your foot. If it hurts like hell, go to the ER.

Don't be scared, iv had appendectomy and it was no big deal. But if you let it go until it breaks it is. So, get it looked at and taken care of right away. Good luck dude!

I had this as a kid. Once the pain started, it didn't relent. It also didn't move and any pressure to the lower right made it exponentially worse. I still have the scar and they were able to get it before it ruptured.

I fully understand the ambivalence toward doctors, particularly these days when their profit margins have been slashed. Any doctor I see these days wants to schedule all sorts of additional tests "just in case" I MIGHT have some odd condition that is common to my demographic. Even after I have explained that ALL of the men in my family have been taken by either heart problems or cancer.

But at some point you have to accept the fact that stuff can happen and you have to visit a doctor to set it straight. Even a broken arm can kill you!

    Go get a diagnosis.
    Then discuss options.
    Go, go go.

    Hopefully, it's nothing much.
If it is something important, get it attended to.

There is a balance with allopathic and alternative medicine.

I am wishing you the best outcome. I want you to be around to annoy me for another, what, fifteen years? (Think I joined in 99 or so) :)

Agree with everyone who says see an MD ASAP, it's worth repeating.

If you can't get an appointment to see your regular MD (do you have a regular MD?), you could go to the hospital. Usually there is an urgent care walk-in clinic, and they can move your to the ED depending.

If you've got health insurance, there's no reason for you not to go.

I still have some pain, but it has gotten better. I don't think it's appendicitis. I am almost thinking I pulled or strained a muscle or something. I took last night off, but will probably go back into work tonight.

I pulled a muscle once and I thought I had a kidney infection. I felt the pain deep in my back, it didn't feel like it was coming from my muscle. So that is a possibility

When you have acute appendicitis there is no doubt. There is no wait. There is no maybe. It only gets increasing worse, and rapidly.
