It's very depressing and it's really hard to not hear the news. I don't listen to news and try to avoid it but people seem to enjoy posting the worst news stories on their social media feeds and so I still end up finding out about the terrible things that happen too often.
Try Tumblr for your relaxation time. You can choose to follow or view those subjects that are of interest to you. I also try to avoid the news. My current philosophy: “If I cannot do anything about it, I don’t need to know about it.”

Oh I don't know, I think its quite funny - all these scumbag 'nasty sleaze party' ministers being trotted out in front of the television cameras to defend what they know to be a downright lie and when they are confronted by the truth resort to bluster
