First time I heard this what do you mean by smoking pot = complacency, apathy.

This is the first time I ever read smoking pot = complacency, apathy, paranoia.. and other problems....

The memory/ concentration problems keeps getting debated over and over on board here.

Would your experiences with cannabis yield a similar assumption?

    No.

While I strongly believe that any rational discussion on cannabis must be a frank and balanced discourse that acknowledges that like everything else we're going to encounter in life, cannabis has both positives and negatives. It is not in keeping with the pro legalization stance here that we dwell on any negatives but it's easy to comply with that spirit because there are so few.

Some folks might tell you that cannabis make people lazy but I must respectfully disagree. I do not believe that marijuana can create anything that doesn't already exist in an individual. Can it magnify laziness? Absolutely, but it can also magnify creativity and help people who have issues holding their attention on one thing for any amount of time- it's probably a more effective (not to mention safer) alternative to pharmaceuticals for dealing with attention issues and hyperactivity. If one is prone to depression I'd advise them to think hard before using... likewise if one has issues self-motivating. Having said that, there are some who actually experience some measure of relief from symptoms of depression as well as some who find that smoking pot helps them become motivated but I cannot count myself among their numbers. I can say that its use will even me out sometimes but it'll make me so fucking comfortable and content that I'll only be motivated to chill out.

There has been some here who have insisted on using "addictive" in pursuing a "balanced" dialog about this fine plant and I must share a measure of dismay with that- not that I deny that one can become psychologically dependent on weed- because anything can become a sort of addiction, like junk food, shopping, or sports... yet these very same people would most likely NOT think of utilizing the term in characterizing those things. The problem I have with terms like "addictive" in THIS context is that they reflect the cultural association of hemp's beautiful cousin with truly hard drugs that have real potential to destroy peoples lives- even end them- drugs like meth, coke, crack, heroin, PCP, and the grand daddy of them all- alcohol.

Think about it, the very government entities that pursue a domestic propaganda campaign that has otherwise intelligent, reasonable and rational people discuss marijuana in the same breath that they talk about heroin collects a portion of its own revenue from the sale of a substance that is deeply implicated in ruining millions of lives and livelihoods, destroys health, and is involved in a significant proportion of highway fatalities- and a known physical addictive from which a large number of sufferers can never break. Can you say, "hypocrisy"? I'd like to point out that, as I write this, I'm in the midst of a self-imposed break of my own- of undetermined duration... for my own reasons.

A few weeks ago I was confronted with a set of external circumstances that suggested to me that a hiatus was in order. I didn't have to sift through the yellow pages to find the number of an outpatient clinic to assist me in this- nor did I have to substitute another addictive substance like methadone to help me stop- I just stopped smoking, sealed and packed away my stash and paraphernalia- no sweat (or jitters, hallucinations, violent shaking, etc.). I simply quit. Do I miss it? Fuck yeah... like I miss a nice rack of baby back ribs slow cooked to perfection- like anything else that I find to be enjoyable but no longer do for whatever reason.

My faculties are intact... my memory seems to be fine. I can put a complete sentence together- what you are reading is the product of a mind that has been subjected to regular marijuana use for nearly three decades- some of it quite heavy. All the cylinders seem to be firing fine and the gray matter that dwells within the confines of my cranial enclosure has not been rendered so incapacitated that they would be better off dead.

    Does that answer your question?

    This paragraph does.

However, there's something more here. You state your mind has been subjected to habitual cannabis intoxication for almost thirty years. Possibly your 'cylinders' might be able to fire at faster rate? Have you ever taken a break from smoking and attempted to find out what potential you have without using marijuana?

I once saw a video in a drug therapy class that claimed that marijuana use would alter a person's chromosomal makeup. That seems a little far fetched to me.
