In the middle of a dark forest, there was an opening in the canopy. The sun streamed down in a near perfect ring of light. In the center of the soft mossy, carpet on the forest floor lay a crown of mushrooms. One day a young girl went for a walk in the woods, her mother had told her to always stay on the path but where was the adventure in that and so she strayed. Deeper and deeper she explored the ever darkening forest. She sat on a log to rest a moment, as she sat she closed her eyes, relaxed, and listened to the familiar sounds of the birds chirping and the water gurgling in the nearby brook. Soon a new sound emerged, faint, nearly imperceptible at first, it mingled with the wind through the trees. As it got louder, it grew more hypnotic. The girl stood and began to wend her way around rocks and over logs following the alluring song. When she found herself at the edge of the small clearing the music faded as if it had never been. Looking at the light streaming in she thought it would be lovely to bask in the glow of the sun before trying to find her way back home. She stepped into the ring of trees, the thick moss sinking under the weight of her feet. A few steps in and she noticed the tiny ring of mushrooms in the middle of the glade. She knelt down beside it for a better look. The mushrooms were growing out of a circle of twigs and vines that had been woven together to form an adorable little crown. She had the urge to put it on, but what if it belonged to someone she thought. She decided there would be no harm in wearing it for a little while and leaving it just as she had found it when she was done. The tiny white tendrils from the mushrooms kept the crown loosely attached to the ground, they gave way easily as she lifted the ring and placed it on her head. She instantly felt like a fairy princess, she stood and danced around the clearing, the moss springing back after each step. She felt like she had only been there for a few minutes but suddenly she was so very, very tired, as if she had been dancing for hours. The girl laid down in the sun on the forest floor, snuggling into the soft moss and drifting off to sleep. The girl never heard the cries of her mother or the calls of all the towns people who had come to search the woods for her all she heard was a mesmerizing lullaby as she dreamed of being in a fairy realm, wearing a mushroom crown, laughing and dancing tirelessly forever. And there she stayed, the moss growing over her, the ground consuming her until there was nothing left but an enchanted mushroom crown sitting in the middle of the glade. I wrote this story around halloween after I had made this mushroom crown, it has LEDs embedded in the mushroom caps. Lights off Lights on
