i actually like this answer. i believe it's definitley meant in a spiritual sense as literally we all know that people save lives every day. for some reason that really resonates with me! :2thumbsup: A belief i find annoying is a completley unyielding belief in a religion or God that has no real foundation for truth. Never questioning the ideas presented by holy texts and people that take religious ideas and texts at face value. I don't mind people believing in a God or celebrating a religion but to not accept the possibility they could be wasting there time is annoying in the highest degree. Ps: i can't believe all the bitchin i missed out on here.
Fingermouse: Did you even see my post? It was no attack. As for what I've "added" to the discussion, I'll let my posts stand for themselves ( provided they're allowed to stand at all! : D) In a way, it would be funny if debate were the most that could be stomached regarding the supposed 'argument' Lithium and I were having , don't you think? And yet, I remember there being a call for the 'validation' of the truth!
It's thedope, that's why! : D (Please forgive my grinning emoticon, it's not that the green hipforums one isn't good enough for me, I just like the look of it as type : D) I love lollollering too, for all kinds of reasons (it's my level I'm afraid!)
You have to bear in mind that lithium and I share everything. I actually pointed your post out to him. It was his decision to delete (he's a mod and I'm not) I don't blame him though.
I very rarely delete anything in this forum apart from spam and the occasional troll, and only then if they contain zero content and are only intended to derail otherwise interesting threads into personal attacks... Seriously, move on. It's the internet. If you want to participate in coherent discussion, feel free to try.
Not exactly a belief, but an attitude towards belief; the unwillingness to subject your beliefs to scrutiny and re-examination. People are normally emotionally attached to their beliefs, indeed they need not have any intellectual or evidential content at all, having come from personal feeling or authority. Truly annoying. Good call
good point, it's not really a belief in itself, but it really does bug me. a bit like what you were saying earlier about if someone thinks they see a ghost they won't try and find a reason why it WASN'T a ghost purely because they want to believe it was one. poor old logic, so under rated.
The belief that nothing should be funded apart from what are perceived to be the most pressing local problems. For instance: The claim that aid should not be given to foreign countries while there are people in poverty in the UK. A starving baby in Africa is less important than an old woman with a bit of a chill in Hull. Money should not be spent on the arts (I don't even *like* opera!) while there are homeless people. We should not explore space while there are problems on Earth. All very, very silly.
I picked that humans have nothing to do with global warming. Whenever someone even starts to say this sentence it makes my head want to explode.
Yes, quite apart from the fact you need to be a simpleton with a complete lack of scientific literacy to imagine that human activity has no effect on climate change, what exactly are they arguing against?
"everything natural is unconditionally beautiful" this is linked in with the whole "all of nature is peaceful and harmonious" thing mentioned earlier, which is clearly rubbish, everything down to miscroscopic level is fighting, dying and shagging, its glorious and amazing and can be unbelievably beautiful. but to say ALL of nature is unconditionally beautiful really, really ticks me off. My art teacher at school used to say it a lot which is probably why im so bitter about it (not her biggest fan) i think what pisses me of so much is the hypocrisy of it.obviously, beauty is subjective, but i'm certain that no-one actually believes this when they say it, i mean, think of anything that you've seen that actually made you feel physically ill. i bet the first thing that'll come to mind is something organic. we've specifically evolved to be instictively repulsed by certain things as a basic survival skill. if shit looked and smelled good, we'd probably all have died out from dyssentry. suck it, ms. macmillan.
