I can't help thinking you're wasting our time. lithium has made some really interesting points...if you have a counter argument, please share it, as this could become an interesting conversation. What we have at the moment is lithium talking to himself because the only responses he gets are "nah, I'm right though". An effective discussion about this would be much more interesting, so maybe you could provide a clear explanation of why you believe that human nature and human behaviour are the same thing. At the moment, you're not adding anything.

You've clearly never heard of these things called "medicine" and "surgery". We fully realise that there is no evidence for any kind of life after death and therefore don't believe in one, but the term "saving lives" refers to halting a premature death when it is preventable and therefore preserving a life for longer. This very short life is all we have...absolutely all we have...so "saving" a life is a hugely significant achievement.

It's Lith who hasn't added anything since my post #110 on page 11 ( which was disliked by three people! LOL ) :

There's nothing to argue with there, and I'm genuinely sorry you think I'm wasting your time. I think you're both interesting people, and you're both always welcome to mine.

As for my economy of expression, it's something I'm learning to live with. ;D

I'm sure there are other threads on this forum that will be more at your level. If you wish to add anything to the discussion, please feel free, otherwise shush because the adults are talking.

Not really a belief as such, but a statement that does indicate a misunderstanding of the relationship between genetic and environmental influences. There is nothing that can be done by an organism that is not influenced by genetic factors, but similarly nothing done by an organism is not also influenced by environmental factors. Simplistic news reports that mischaracterise scientific findings and loudly declare discovery of "the god gene" or "the gay gene" don't help.

Probably the belief I hate the most is - That god puts children in stomachs and therefore the human bearing the fetus is not allowed to choose to abort it. Fucking idiotic belief.

"Abortion is child murder" is a very stupid one indeed... The concept that a bundle of cells with no central nervous system has the same rights as a viable foetus or a fully grown child indicates total biological illiteracy. That many of the same people who hold this belief are prepared to kill and eat mammals or support the death penalty for humans is very strange, but all of these mistakes come from the same essentialist misunderstanding of some basic things about biology.

Personal attacks are against forum rules. That includes attacks with "just kidding" tacked onto the end. lithium made the decision as a moderator, and it's a decision he's very rarely taken before except if the post is spam. Whether it had stayed up or not doesn't matter though, because it added nothing to the discussion, so hopefully we can move on now.

I think the poster meant in the spiritual sense; the people who say that their lives were saved by religion etc.

Even then I'd have to disagree in certain circumstances. I might even be wrong about how it was meant. :/

Yeah it was pretty ambiguous. I just took a guess at what the person meant. If you're right, they probably should have replaced "lives" with "souls" or something.
