Hi Severine, I am a literature student and also a person in the world, but I have neither heard of Dostoevsky nor read any of his works... This may be a lie.
Wow, I just realized that I somewhere between reading and posting, I had a massively blonde moment- and posted the belief I personally felt was the most important instead of the most absurd.
Ah yes, there seems to be a myth circulating that it's somehow incredibly noble and wise to just sit on your arse and let life pass you by, to "go with the flow" and not have any plans or direction. In my experience, not moving gets you...nowhere. Fancy that.
Interestingly, "everyone's opinion should be respected equally" is in the lead. Can the voters explain why?
Naughtier and naughtier : D I am no literateur as my nose was not made to wear glasses. I was able to read Candide by virtue of it. Does Pangloss crack you up? Does philosophy? Then you are probably better suited to something that science alone cannot crack. ; ) Fingermouse: Impossible! Voters are for voting, as all is not to be for the best until, paradoxically, the best presents itself. In short, the vote is short a vote. Everyones opinion cannot be voted upon, hence voters. I am forced to conclude that democracy is a fairytale invented by goblins. : D
I really hate the "Back in my day..." thing, so first option. But I couldnt really be bothered clicking the little poll option button. Yes, I know its called a radio button for those that do programming, but I had to dumb it down as we are in the UK forum and I didnt want them to get angry and go loot some flatscreen TVs. Back in my day we didnt have the internet so we couldnt double check how full of shit old people were
Here is a good one "If you work hard you will do well" That entirely depends upon what you work hard at, there are plenty of people who worked hard and did well, but you go to any cheap shitty bar and you will meet someone who worked hard and didn't do well or is working hard and didn't do well They make TV programs about poor people who worked hard and did well, if it was just normal then they would make TV programs about people who worked hard and did badly. It takes a lot more than working hard to do well
I hate when people say that you only use 1/3 (or other random fraction) of your brain. Scam created by new age movement. Just like any other part of your body, if you don't use part of your brain, it atrophies and dies.
the fact that we are asking other people's opinion even in this thread and furthermore tolerating it sort of says it all. maybe it's just one of our minds archetypes rather than a throwaway belief.
it's a misconception. we can only use a certain portion of our brain at any given time but that doesn't mean we don't use the whole thing.
a lot of our brain is just memory though and noone understands how it works i am pretty sympathetic to that concept, like if our brain was microsoft windows we would just be playing on solitaire and paint
well of course - people forget where they place their car keys for instance all the time the stereotype alludes to dormancy however. we use all the parts of our brain but not to its maximum output.
but if you could remember everything that you knew all the time you'd be a genius even if you had spent your whole life watching quiz shows
because 2 dots is just a ridiculous position to stand up for everyone knows that 3 dots is the right answer
because we haven't worked out our brains yet... if you think that even 200 years ago normal people only lived until about 30 or 40
