I don't really use it these days but it reminds me of high school. We would do a derivative of it where we would use the off hand to act like we were winding our middle finger up. Most all of us did it in a few seconds but my friend had a Japanese exchange student live with him for a year and when he would do it, he would literally take 10 seconds to wind his middle finger up and for some reason we found that to be the funniest thing ever.

We also did the same at HS but we blew into our thumb so the kiddle finger raised like air Ballon and also used another finger as a foot pump to blow the middle finger up lol.

I think the middle finger may be a derogatory sign because the French used to cut the middle fingers off the English so they couldn't use their bows as archers as English always had good bowman.

But that could be an old wives take too.

Anyway, whatever you have to do to stick one to the Frenchies I suppose.

I dunno what we have in Germany... Probably nothing. I see some people go kss kss and flick the bottom of their chin out but I think it's Croatian VS Serbian thing.

  6. Used to cop it from those at school who used to be the phantom farters.
We'd ask "did you fart mate?" and we'd cop the middle finger as a response.

About a year ago, while driving in one of the busier sections of town, I see this guy standing on the sidewalk, across the street from a Walmart, flipping everybody off that drives by. He’s even leaning down low enough to look right in peoples windows to make sure he has eye to eye contact with the drivers and passengers in every car.
It was the damndest thing I ever saw, and to this day, I can’t stop laughing about it!

Hahaha naturally. We'd sometimes make collections for each other's shylock business. Gangsters gotta stick together.

In the 1950s Vice President Richard M. Nixon emerged from his plane in Brazil, made an "A-OK" sign with each hand, and enthusiastically wagged them to the assembled crowd. He didn't realize (or did he?) that he was giving the Brazilian equivalent of the middle finger. The assembled crowd was aghast.

Nobody trained him up on cultural considerations, customs and courtesies for that part of the world- or they did and he didn’t listen like someone else we know?
