I've been watching several channels this morning and not one reporter has mentioned the fact that June 19, 1865, known as Juneteenth, wasn't the end of slavery in the US. Slavery in the US wasn't made illegal until December 6 with the 13th Amendment.

The Emancipation Proclamation on applied to the Confederate States and it wasn't until the 13th Amendment that Union States were required to free their slaves.

Now Columbus Day has been changed by a lot of folks to Native American Day or simply no longer celebrated. Christopher Columbus and his soldiers were terribly inhumane. One example is, when a scouting party was sent out, they would take along Native Americans to kill and feed to their dogs each evening.

So, if the federal government seems to think that federal employees are getting enough paid days off, do away with that holiday in October and make June 19th, or December 6th, a federal holiday.

I got this from Wikipedia, so it might not be accurate:

I consume lots of news, much of it from the US. Every coherent story I read or saw on the subject of Juneteenth also mentioned the Emancipation Proclamation and the 13th Amendment to the US Constitution. I don't think there's any confusion at all. You need to watch better quality news.

You have a choice of the news you consume, and you choose unwisely.

Massachusetts has officially made Juneteenth a state holiday and it was signed into law by the Governor.
