    This thread reminds me of a couplet from the ramacharitmanas by Goswami Tulsidasji, where he gives a beautiful metaphor explaining the value of Ram nama.

    The verse says that devotion to Sri Rama is like the monsoon season.

    In India summers get really really hot and dry. People await the rains eagerly and when they come it is such a wonderful feeling of relief and comfort. In the same way, we are burnt by the dry heat of samsara and the love of Sri Rama is like the cooling rain that brings us gentle relief and soothes us.

    The two months of monsoon in India, according to the ancient Hindu calendar, are Saawan and Bhadrapad. These two months are likened by Tulsidasji as being the two letters, Ra and ma in the name of Rama. Just like the two months of monsoon bring the cooling rain, the name of Rama brings the soft healing relief of devotion.

    Now it is in this time that the crops also come forth. So what is the crop that is born out of this monsoon of devotion? Shri Tulsidas says, the harvest is nothing but the devotees of bhagawan.

    Such is the greatness of the name of the Lord. Goswamiji has devoted hundreds of verses to the description of its glories, this one, for somereason, is my favorite.
