6:30 p.m. Iraqi officials say the death toll from the car bomb attack claimed by the Islamic State group in central Baghdad has climbed to at least 115. Hospital and police officials said Sunday that another 187 people were wounded in the overnight attack, and nearly a dozen people remain unaccounted for and feared dead. A second bomb attack in eastern Baghdad early Sunday killed five people and wounded 16. https://www.yahoo.com/news/latest-toll-baghdad-bombing-climbs-115-153614879.html?ref=gs
MSN.com has a headline that says, "Anger Over Security As Iraqis Mourn 200 Dead In Baghdad Terror Attack". I guess the number doesn't really matter that much. It's horrific in either case.
I've seen several reports that said the dead are over 200 and wounded are over 300. The Bombing happened in the Karradat Merriam district which is a mostly Shia area. ISIS is a Sunna Whahabi sect and hates Shia people. So they strike at the Shia when they can. The new Iraqi government has cleared ISIS out of Fallujah and is preparing to take them on in Mosul. The problem remains with ISIS members being disbursed among several countries. It will be good when they don't live on this planet any more.
Fundamentalism is overrunning the Earth like a plague and no place is immune. I'm still hopeful that reason, wisdom and empathy will prevail in the long run; sadly, it will be long after I have died and turned to dust.
That was a different kind of bomb... and incendiary device designed to burn AND explode...designed to KILL as many as possible. And they did. Way over 200 dead.
These days I'm a little desensitized to hearing about bombings in that part of the world, but it's still really tragic.
