Educating Rita is a classic, it's brilliantly acted!

And yeah, that film is one big pile of smoke and mirrors. Quite funny how the story is just a blatant rip off, too.

I think the acting was gold in parts and average in others. It felt inconsistent and that was a bit offputting. We also spent a lot of the film trying to figure out what accent half of them were trying to have. They sounded Irish and scouse and we even picked out a hint of cockney. It's a good story and concept but the film looked incredibly dated even for the 80s, and it wasn't just the set but the whole look of the thing, dodgy music and all.

I am a fan of the characters and story. I saw it performed as a play as a teenager, and based on the strength of the story the film is worth watching. But I think it could have been done better. I'm rather picky though.

That's fair enough, have to account for personal taste. Plus, you've seen the stage version, which is the original and thus should be credited first and foremost.

I really like both the actors in the film though, so maybe i'm biased. I thought Caine was brilliant as he usually is, but the character gave him a lot to explore. However there are better movies, as there are much worse

sounds like you really are quite picky

I was probably a bit put off by how much Caine looked just like one of my old lecturers aswell.

I really am picky with films

And just out of idle curiosity, what would be one of your favourite films? It's a hard question, but whatever :p

Just to keep the thread on topic, I have already decided what I will watch tonight. I watch a film each night before bed, and today it will be Mr and Mrs Smith. In the mood for something light :D
