Watching the news on CNN, MSNBC, and FOX gives me the impression that all are in rare agreement that this is an appalling"disaster". Which I find puzzling, cuz: (1) the outcome was predictable. No way could anybody expect the Afghan forces to stand up to the Taliban; (2) getting out is sensible. We've been there for twenty years--our longest war, and seem to have gotten nowhere. Would it be less of a disaster if we stayed for another twenty years, throwing good money after bad--not to mention lives? (3) nation-building was not supposed to have been our primary objective, nor does it make sense for the U.S. to serve as a policeman to control a problem the Afghans seem unwilling and/or unable to control themselves. Sure we could probably have left more gracefully, but getting out is the important thing. What was it all about, Alfie?
It is an appalling disaster, years in the making and to BLAME BIDEN is WRONG. He inherited this mess from others, who were blind and stupid to go there in the first place. They whole invasion of Afghanistan was smoke and mirrors after 9/11 when Cheney and Bush declared war. Afghanistan was not the problem Al Qaeda and the Taliban were not the same at the time... but it does go back further that that to the Russian Occupation. Read your history folks! It is the best thing to read for sensationalism and lessons to be learned for the future.
