I got an uber to go little over 1000yards. Im such a loser.. picked up the standard sunday brew Guinness Extra Stout.. finishing off my Helltown a little earlier..
honestly I could've walked but they close at 11, and wasnt sure id make it dillydally drunk already.. he got more in tips than fare, was only $3.75 both ways .. i give him $10, sixer cost $10 .. 20bucks to chill for the night. worth it .. uber is cool here, because its a small city . usually less than 5mins I can get a ride. sometimes on a sunday I get plastered at the inlaws , I leave my car there, take uber home, take uber to my car or work in the morning. uber lately been on the immigration bandwagon. 90% my drivers be white, 10% black.. never had a foreign driver.. yet. but I do get the same ride sometimes, they cool people ..
I used to drive a cab. One night, in the summer, some dude wanted a ride... but the pick-up was out of town (even though I was already there) and the drop off was too. That meant it was a $10 minimum, no matter where he wanted to go. I explained it to him a few times. He still wanted the ride. It was literally one block away. He could've walked there in the time it took him to get in the car and say where he wanted to go, lol.
Might have been lost. I was wandering DC one time and was lost and late for a concert. I was probably close a couple times and would have paid $10. To be sure I make it on time.
I know it hasn't been a super long time, but I'm back for another night of drinking again. After this first beer, the rest are all coffee based. So... First beer: (Alc. 5.2%) The smells: Bright and happy, sweet citrus and fresh grass. Just a hint of cracker somewhere in the backbeat. The tastes: The cracker has moved up to the sides, while the grass has largely subsided. Still bright, but the bitterness of the hops has nonchalantly joined the party. And the sweet citrus has taken on a stronger, pithy edge. Overall, not a bad brew. I could easily drink these all afternoon at a bbq. My personal taste skews away from hoppy brews, but this seems to be growing on me a bit... or at least the hops are losing the edge of their bitter side and the sweetness is taking a couple tentative steps forward.
That would've made a lot more sense... but nope. I could see the place he wanted to go. I knew which one it was, because he pointed to it! I was like "That bar? Right there?" (pointing the short block away) "Yeah, man. Here's yer $10... just drop me off right there." "... ok, you got it buddy." lol
I don't know if I ever dropped my review of Java Head Stout by Troegs in this thread. And I'm not gonna go search for it. The point is, I've had it before so I'm not doing a new review tonight. But I'll paste my old review (from that other forum) here, just in case...
dammit yall are drinkin good shit and here I am drinking a 40 ounce mickeys waiting for my hyena to come over >.<
Talkin about good shit (besides hyenas)... Here's #3! (Alc. 6.0%) Smells like: Deep and sweet. Strong chocolate and coffee rising up off of this brew. A slight breadiness adds some character. Tastes like: Slight espresso bitterness and dark cocoa add extra dimension to this coffee soul. It's almost hard to recognize the stout beer through the coffee notes, tasting more like espresso than a beer. (Although, at the same time, it's obviously not just a cup of espresso that I'm drinking.) Overall, this is a smooth brew. Dark, velvety espresso dominates the profile. A pleasure to drink!
Oh hey there... looks like I'm on my last beer of the night. Without much ado... #4: (Alc. 6.5%) Smellin: Soft coffee with a malt twang. Hard to describe... reminds me of Mexican coffee/chocolate/spices. Tastin: Starts with the 'cafe', quickly leading into a tight twang that is a blend of Spanish/Mexican flavor and standard porter character. Lightly toasted bread rounds out the ever-so-slightly-bitter brew. Overall, I'm not a huge fan... but not terribly disappointed either. Tastes more like a malted coffee soda than a porter beer brewed with coffee, partially due to the carbonation. Not bad, I'd drink it again... but I wouldn't bother seeking it out.
On a side note... I just done changed my avatar. (But I plan on changing it again soon to a better angle/pose.) As a reminder, the old one: (I'm mostly posting this to kick my own ass into gear on a couple projects.) Edit: Current version and alternate version of current look: ____
Green Man Porter. I like it very much, it is creamy and smooth. Nice carbonation. I'm getting so good at these reviews
Tonight I am drinking Coffee Barbary Coast from Almanac out of California. This is an imperial stout coming in at 10% ABV. It is brewed with coffee, cocoa nibs, vanilla beans, chili peppers, sea salt and oak. Pours an opaque, pitch black color. Aroma is of sweet chocolate malts, roasted notes, coffee, creamy vanilla, cinnamon, and a hint of spicy chili peppers. Flavor mirrors the nose with an upfront chocolate malt sweetness coupled with flavors of cocoa/milk chocolate, coffee and vanilla. Flavors of cinnamon, toasted oak, toffee, brown sugar and chili peppers are present in the finish, with some lingering bitterness and sweetness. Mouthfeel is soft and smooth, but somewhat thin for the style with a very low level of carbonation. Overall this is an incredibly flavorful and highly drinkable imperial stout with an ABV that sneaks up on you and is well hidden. Rating : A
