I'm honestly not very surprised... although it is MUCH more drink-centric than I would've expected it to turn out. Shit, at this point, it feels weird posting stuff that isn't drink related in a thread that was originally meant for random shit. *shrug* Fuck it... we're having a good time and that's what it's all about, man....
Hey! PRat! I seriously need to get my lips around some of that Grimm shit. What's the best way to do that? Like... should I go to that area for it? Or should there be a Hip Forums Beer Fest? All I know is I just would love to try so many of the brews you post from them! (Oh yeah... also, I'm all caught up on the thread now... and also ut of Likes because of it.)
Where do you live? It's very hard to find their beers outside of the NY area, though you can find them in the tri-state region. The closer to NYC you are, the easier their beers are to obtain. But mostly their beers are limited to NYC and the cities upstate, and in very limited quantities. This is why you have to stand in line to get them, because they sell out almost immediately given their limited production. You can possibly find them via the various beer trading groups online. Or perhaps I can send you a can (or bottle) one of these days, seeing as that YouFreeMe has been generous enough to mail me a can of the highly acclaimed Heady Topper from Vermont.
I am now drinking yet ANOTHER beer from Grimm that was released alongside of the Zap. This is Light Year, another double IPA also coming in at 8% ABV. This beer is also incredibly fresh, having been canned on 11/30/16. It is brewed with predominately Wai-iti and Galaxy hops with background notes of Mosaic and Citra. From Grimm's website: Light Year is a Double IPA prominently featuring Wai-iti and Galaxy with background notes of Mosaic and Citra. Firmly operating in our hop candy mode, we taste typical Southern Hemisphere “purple fruit” notes, pineapple, dank, and spun sugar. This beer pours much less hazy than many of Grimm's beers. It pours a semi-hazy amber color with an initial 1/2 finger of head. The nose features notes of candied orange, lemon, lime, pineapple and passionfruit, along with some dank, grassy, herbal notes. Flavor is again like hop candy. Lots of pineapple, peach, pear and some passionfruit. Some dank pine and biscuity malts towards the middle and finish. Mild to medium bitterness that is fairly dry. Mouthfeel is once again very soft and smooth and with a gentle carbonation. While many have said that the Zap supersedes this beer, strangely enough, I actually think I like this one more. Overall Rating: A+
I'm in NJ, "shore area". So, not too far away. But I still think a Hip Forums beer tasting sounds like a fun idea.
my beer place begun to sell wine, usually the volume of alcohol was limited to purchase but now you can buy wine on top of the beer.
My favorite place to go for beer also has an extensive collection of wine. In fact, it's called "Wine World". Quick factoid: I used to play D&D with my wife and a few friends. My character was a half-orc monk who really liked his wine. Every time we played, I brought a particular wine and drank it from the bottle throughout the game. (It was always empty before we were done playing.) In fact, I believe it was: (about $30 - $40/bottle)
I think you should be able to find their beers where you are. The thing is, you have to know when and where they're being released. You're not going to just find them sitting on the shelves at any store. You literally have to be there when they're released. Check with your local beer retailers/bottle shops to see if and when they release Grimm's beers. If you cannot get ahold of anything, I will try to send you a can/bottle or two.
I would've clicked Like, but I'm out for the day. (grr) I'll have to ask the guys at Wine World. If they can get it, they will. Especially if I'm all in for a case or whatever. Either that or I'll write a letter to Santa. Or you.
Wine World? You live in Jersey, so there HAS to be at least a few bottle shops that specialize in craft beer. I would check those out if you can. If not, take a drive into the city.
It may be called Wine World, but they have one of the better selections of craft beer in my area. They pride themselves, possibly even more than wine, in the beers they carry. In fact, out of the 5 or so local liquor stores, they all have some kind of showing of craft beers. The only one really lacking is the local town liquor store, which only has a few choices. Even the chain stores have some god craft choices. If I don't see Grimm, I'll request it. If they can't get it... I'm coming for you.
Well, turns out I finished off the 3 Hash Browns I had. So now I'm moving on to a Samuel Smith Oatmeal Stout I've had in my fridge since around mid-September. The beer: (Alc. 5%) Smell: Bready molasses meets a bright raisin thread. Taste: Dark and sweet, smoky cracker with a raisin weave. Overall, easily drinkable, as all Sammy Smiths are. Brighter than expected. (this also got me a new badge on UnTappd. )
It really is super smooth and pleasant to drink. In fact, I have to go refill my glass... right about... *sip* ...now.
lulz they have maddog20/20 there..would never think of buying that. just the thought makes me sober up..
Alright you bastards (and bastardettes)... I'm still drinking and shit, but I think I'm going to go log into Second Life and meander around some clubs. Which also means there's a real likelihood I'll be significantly more fucked up than if I just hung out here.
I'm definitely interested to hear (read) that one! (Second Life (SL) has a mandatory update that's updating now... might take another minute or three.)
