This beer gives me pride to be from Rochester. Really a delicious seasonal beer which I now look forward to each fall. I think it was just released only a year or two ago. The chocolate flavors in this beer are really nicely done, and the body is exceptionally smooth and creamy. I would seriously give this beer an A.
I am drinking this beer I purchased over a month ago. I feel this would be best consumed aged for about 3-5 years, but this is relatively fresh having been bottled on only August 16 of this year. It's Avery's Pump[ky]n, a porter brewed with pumpkin and spice and aged in bourbon barrels, which clocks in at a whopping 18.8% ABV. in other words, this beer is fucking dangerously strong. It's the second strongest beer I have had next to Sam Adams' 'Utopias', which is, I believe, 25% ABV. I am pouring this into my snifter glass. It pours a dark brown/amber color with literally no head to speak of, which is not surprising considering the ABV. The aromas I am getting are predominately bourbon, boozy alcohol, and spice, with only a faint amount of pumpkin detected. I am getting lots of cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla, as well as some oak and brown sugar The nose of this beer is very boozy, as is to be expected for nearly 19% ABV. Flavor-wise, this is very much in line with the nose. The bourbon and booze really comes through in a big way, with the pumpkin and spices taking a backseat. Again, lots of cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar, and a hint of vanilla. The high ABV provides a very warming mouthfeel with some astringency. Overall it is quite smooth, with a slick mouthfeel and a low level of carbonation. This is quite a tasty brew, and is actually better than I had expected. Overall I would give this an A- Is it worth the almost 12 bucks it costs for a 12 oz. bottle? Probably not.

Hello there. I'm back and catching up on what I've missed over the past week or so. In the meantime, tonight's brew: (Alc. 6.2%) Smells like: Resin, pine and chocolate greet me while holding hands with crackers juicy hops. Tastes like: Bitter pine and standard hops with just a hint of bittersweet chocolate in the background. Overall, I'm thinking this is probably fairly good for the type of beer it is. Since I'm not much into hops (especially the bitter side of 'em), this doesn't do a lot for me and I may switch out to something else after the one I'm drinking now (second of the night). Not that I didn't know I was getting into something hoppy, but still.. I expected it to be more tempered. But hey, if hops are your thing, this beer could do well for you. Oh... and how about a sexy lady to go with this trout-labeled drink? Yeah? Ok... here ya go...
Well, I thought I was only going to drink the Hash Browns tonight. But decided I wanted to try something else I had lurking in the fridge. ... (Alc. 8.2% ...in case you couldn't guess. lol) The Smells: Dangerous. Deep alcohol, some sort of whiskey-bourbon smell going on here. Smells like sweet malt with a spiced soul. And just slightly musty. (Honestly, I could just smell his shit all night long... just wonderful!) The Tastes: Significantly sweet malt, with a devious edge hidden in the bready nooks. Perhaps a bit of wet hay in there with a few raisins hidden in the bale. Overall, I wouldn't pound this brew. Sweeter than I expected, enough that it's not a thing to pound. Savorable like a dessert wine born in the woods at night... with just a touch too much sweetness. Still gets a pic to go with it though.
I am home after a night out with my girlfriend. The beer selection at the places we went to, with the exception of the last place, was somewhat limited, so I was left drinking Southern Tier's 2XStout; a very decent but still average milk stout, Victory's Hop Devil; an IPA in which I have not had in years, and Fantome Saison; a world class Belgian saison. ------ Now that I am home I am drinking Grimm's Super Spruce which was released just this week, I believe for only the second time since late last year. It is a gose brewed with spruce tips and conditioned on oak, as are most if not all of Grimm's sour ales (conditioned on oak, that is). From Grimm themselves: Super Spruce owes its immense pine aromatics to a double dose of resin. The new growth of spruce trees layered with Chinook hops create a complex profile of fresh pine that includes floral, citrus, cola, and bubble gum undertones. This unboiled beer is luminous and hazy with a grapefruit-like acidity that perfectly showcases the bright coniferous flavors. Sea salt rounds the mouthfeel, while white oak provides tannic structure. Bottled November 2016, 4.7% ABV. It pours a hazy straw color with about a 1/8 finger head. Aroma is of lemon zest, floral hops, pine needle, spruce, oak, lactic acid as well as phenolic and slightly musty Belgian yeast. Flavor is wonderfully tart with a zesty lemon and slight pine that's coupled with a nice salinity. The spruce tips come through very nicely in the finish without being overbearing. The oak is there in the finish as well. Mouthfeel is light, acidic, and with a vibrant effervescence that is crisp and clean. Very awesome beer to celebrate the holiday season, spruce tips and all. It is a very nice alternative to the high ABV, heavily spiced winter warmers normally released this time of year. Overall rating: A
Trimmed several ounces of Strawberry Cough, Purple Kush, and Chernobyl today. I'll head back out to the country again tomorrow to harvest more bud.
Um, 6-eyed? That's not beer at all! But it sure sounds pretty damned tasty! (Did you hear what Denver passed recently?)
I am now drinking Mocha Marlin from Ballast Point, a porter brewed with coffee and chocolate. 6% ABV Pours an opaque dark brown/black color with an initial two fingers of tan head. Aroma is of dark roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, toffee, vanilla, brown sugar and caramel. Flavor is predominately coffee and roasted malts, some faint vanilla and caramel, along with some dark chocolate, molasses, and toasted nuts. Mouthfeel is light to medium with medium carbonation. Very smooth, soft body makes for easy drinkability. Overall rating: A
INORITE?!?!?! :lmao: (To be honest, that label had a lot to do with my decision to buy it. I just had to know what lay behind it. lol)
