Just had some fresh pizza... but no alcohol... either way, I love that diagram! Such technical terms to!!
Tonight, however, I AM drinking alcohol. Beer to be more exact. This one to be even more exact... (Alc. 7%) Smells like: Woah ho ho oh... there be hops in there! But it smells like there could be a bit more of a sweet citrus taste than normal. Maybe some slight hint of some kind of spice? Tastes like: Definitely a hoppy brew, but it's muted nicely... the edges are all rounded off. There does seem to be some sort of spice in there, which would make sense as this is a seasonal winter brew (so it may be a little long in the neck). Carbonated lightly and just... pretty smooth all around. (Although, it seems like the hops will build up with time, increasing the bitterness as I move along) (Aaaand... it's time for beer #2!)
fuckk. cant wait till im back in hawaii or mexico. just fucken sitting there on the beach, not a care in the world. drinken a beer, watchin the water. truely incredible
Hey kick. If it wasnt for the fact that i know i dont have any other accounts on this site i would have thought you were my alternate account. Well except i dont do beer reviews anymore. It was taking away from my enjoying them. Maybe i will start again but not take it seriously at all.
That sounds like a good idea! I've just started experimenting with comparing reviews from first smell/sips of first beer to like, three beers in. Since a lot of times it hits you a bit different by then, in effect and taste and everything. But overall, I'm not doing anything serious with them, so they don't matter, so I can post all the wacky shit I like. Half the reason I do them is so I know what I prefer and don't, if I'm not trying something new anyway (which is rare). In fact, over in the main forum I frequent I have a thread chronologically listing the beers I've reviewed. (Hard to keep track of after 15 pages...)
Been awhile since I posted in this thread, hey? Well, that changes now! I'm now on #3, but here's the info on tonight's fuel: The beer: (Alc. 7%) The smell: Hmm... smells a little bready and like it's going to have a bite. I'm getting a little raisin and a bit of spice maybe. (To be honest, I'm feeling a little out of practice at this... hrmph) The taste: That's a pleasant tasting beer. The malt lingers a bit on the back end, but it smooth up front. There's possibly a bit of smoky/woody flavor going on. There's something else... tight? ...about it that I can't quite put my finger on (maybe it's a yeast thing?). Overall, not a bad beer. If someone is looking to go dark, this is another good entry beer for them. It sits on the dark side, but still has a lightness about it, all while having a decent punch to sobriety.
I've never been to Mexico, but my husband just told me today that he wants to take me there over Christmas!!!!
Did he say where? Like what area or resort or anything to clue us in on the awesomeness he wants to subject you to?
Took a trip yesterday I was able to pick up 10 beers I never had...or don't remember having before. Got a growler of route 4 iPad. Not sure who makes it but it was pretty good. Lots of flavor but very light for a 7 and a half abv. Finally picked up grapefruit sculcin after hearing people talk so great about it for the last year.
I always shy away from those Ballast Point beers, the fish just don't make it seem appealing. I tried one of them once and it was a decent beer according to an old review I'd made of it. You'll have to let us know what you try and how they are!
Stupid auto correct on my kindle. Turned ipa into ipad. Had the sculcin and it was good didnt taste like grapefruit but it had a very slight bitterness that reminds me of a citrus peel. Like the route 4 it was also 7%but very light going down despite having a good amount of hoppy flavor. I feel the same way about bells two hearted ale with the fish on it. I just think it will be salty even though i know it is good.
AHA... IPA... not iPad! It makes MUCH more sense now! In other news, I found that old review... it was for the Sculpin IPA. This one: My review sounds similar to your experience (except mine wasn't the grapefruit version). Here's what I'd written:
No pics from the kindle but I am drinking Breckenridge oatmeal stout. A nice light chocolatey taste. Mouth feel is similar to water until I have to burp then it feels like I have nothing but foam in my throat.
trying the jailbreak Scoville jalapeno ipa. Disappointed that there is no spiciness to it. The strength of the hops seem to change with each sip. Overall it's pretty light for a 7% abv (starting to sound familiar...either my taste buds are shot or I have been picking some very well made ales.) The times that there was a stronger hoppy taste it was after the initial sip and closer to the aftertaste that punched me in the throat with some flavor. There is about a quarter of my beer left and I am just starting to feel a slight warmth on my tongue. maybe if I had a six pack it would feel like I had a slice of a jalapeno with a six pack of multi hopped watered down ipa.
Thanks for the reviews! It sounds like they're both alright brews, but not really the best of either kind. Like, my mouth wouldn't be offended by either of them, but I could easily find better representatives of those individual flavors.
I would say you are right on, more so I would say you can find equally good beers of those styles for a few dollars cheaper. I knew that I didn't remember how sculpin was spelled but damn I was far off. stupid me for being too lazy to find out the correct spelling for sure.
