Went out to Tap & Mallet tonight, one of Rochester's best beer pubs. Had three beers while there. 1) Grimm Boysen Rebus - Awesome sour/wild ale brewed with boysenbeery. Nice combination of tart berry flavors and acidic wild yeast funk. Light-medium bodied beer with a smooth mouthfeel and light carbonation. Very refreshing, highly drinkable beer. 2) Singlecut ERIC More Cowbell! Chocolate Milk Stout (Nitro) - Awesome nitro milk stout from Singlecut. Lots of mild chocolate/cocoa powder and coffee flavors with an incredibly creamy smoothness and immense drinkability courtesy of the nitro pour. 3) Suarez Crispy Little - Awesome pale wheat ale with lots of earthy hop aromas and flavors, but relatively little bitterness. Nice wheat backbone to this beer, with just the right amount of citrus (lemon, grapefruit, orange) hops. Mouthfeel is crisp and clean, with a nice level of carbonation.
I am now home and drinking Lord Hobo Brewing Company's Consolation Prize Double India Pale Ale. 9.5% ABV. Pours a hazy golden yellow-orange with an initial 1 1/2 fingers of head. Lots of sweet tropical fruit (mango, pineapple, orange) on the nose, as well as some juicy peach, along with some crackery malts, sweet caramel, and some wet grass and faint resin. Flavor is of juicy citrus hops (lemon, orange, pineapple), lemon and orange zest, dank pine, some sweet caramel malts, and an earthy/herbal presence. Very little bitterness to speak of. Mouthfeel is light-medium and with a fair amount of carbonation. Overall rating: A
I'm going to support a friend at an open mic night tonight, might do a number myself as well if I don't bottle it.
I am now drinking another beer from Lord Hobo Brewing Company, this is their Boom Sauce IPA. 7.8% ABV On the can it's billed as an "unfiltered New England Style IPA". Pours a hazy golden-orange color. Aroma is of dank pine, resin and floral notes with a strong, underlying pithy citrus (mango, tangerine, grapefruit, pinapeapple). Lots of earthy herbal and spice-like notes as well. Flavor is of juicy citrus (mango, peach, pineapple), along with some toffee and caramel malt sweetness. There is also a peppery yeast bite. Mouthfeel is light-medium, soft, and with a decent amount of carbonation. Overall rating: A-

Before I catch up on this thread (and get to election night stuff), I wanted to post about what I'm drinking tonight. This post happens to coincide nicely with it! So, yeah... I'm drinking: (Alc. 6%) The smell: Standard ale, but with a thread of chocolate and a cookie dough backbone. The taste: Sweeter than expected and... tastes much like it smells. A definite "ale", but with a light cookie dough flavor in the background... lingering on after the standard ale flavors have mostly diminished. There's a slight bitter undertone that folds in from the sides and under the back end. Overall, much more drinkable than I thought it would be. I don't see having a problem drinking multiple bottles of this in a row. It tastes like it would do well as the liquid in an ice cream float. I'd give it 3 3/4 stars out of 5. (Which I'm about to do on Untappd )
A Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout 10% APV... Only thing I dont like about it, is its drink-ability.. pretty darn smooth and ya get hammered quick..
I could drink this beer forever and never get tired of it. Unfortunately it's only brewed once per year and is only available for about a week or two before it disappears from the shelves. Today I managed to find one remaining six pack hidden on the shelves at Wegmans. Again the best Lagunitas beer by far.
I am now drinking Choklat from Southern Tier -- no doubt the best beer ever made by Southern Tier. This is an imperial stout brewed with real chocolate. 10% ABV. Pours an opaque black with about 1/4 inch tan head. Aroma is of dark chocolate, cocoa powder, dark roasted malts, subtle caramel, and even a hint of vanilla. Flavor is of dark roasted malts, dark chocolate, cocoa powder, and some faint molasses. Mouthfeel is medium full and with a light to moderate carbonation. Overall Rating: A+ World Class Brew!!!
I just downed 3 dead guy ales and yelled obscene profanities into a pillow. This past month, everything that could have gone wrong went wrong! I might grow a beard of sorrow.
Tonight I had the New Belgium cookie dough ale on tap. I was not impressed. It wasn't offensive, but I would not order it again. It's basically a golden ale that has the flavors of cookie dough. And yeah, it does taste like cookie dough, but I just cannot see the point of combining that flavor with beer. Seems gimmicky, which it is. I'll give it a C+
Now drinking Founders Harvest Ale; a seasonal wet-hopped IPA. 7.6% ABV, 70 IBUs. Pours a mostly clear gold/honey color with about a finger of head which dissipates fast but leaves a nice amount of lacing on the glass. Aroma is of dank, earthy hops with a good combination of pine resin and tropical citrus fruits, mainly orange, pineapple, and perhaps a slight amount of grapefruit. There are some faint floral notes, as well as a distinct but non-descript spiciness. Upfront I am getting this really earthy, almost spicy wet hop flavor which could best be described as dank. The flavor, much like the aroma, is nicely balanced between an earthy pine resin, and sweet, juicy tropical fruits. There is also a nice roasted caramel malt backbone that provides a subdued sweetness. Mouthfeel is crisp, smooth, clean, and with a fair amount of carbonation. Very nice wet hopped ale that beautifully showcases the hop oils. The finish is semi-dry, with some lingering hop oil bitterness. A+
Er, maybe you should make a separate beer thread PR. I'm going down the job centre today. "Gee'us a job, I could do that!" They have security guards on the front door, hopefully there won't be any fights when I go down.
An interior shot of Turcott's Taproom, a British pub in Rochester, NY, and one of my favorite spots to chill and enjoy quality brews. I love the cozy atmosphere of this place. This picture was shot from the back, facing the front. The bar is up front, to the left, and the booths are in the back. I love the ambiance of this place.
