Sorachi Ace is a saison made with Sorachi Ace hops. It's one of Brooklyn's better year round beers.

Enjoying the latest release from Grimm -- this is Field Rotation, a Berliner weiss style sour ale brewed with barley, oats, rye and clover flowers. This one is brewed in collaboration with Blue Hill, and is brewed as an ode to crop rotation.

    From Grimm's website:

Created in collaboration with the team at Blue Hill, this refreshing Berliner Weisse is brewed as an ode to crop rotation. The historical tradition of rotating crops creates nutrient-rich growing conditions that produce the most flavorful grains and vegetables. Clover is a cover crop that nourishes the soil; oats and rye improve soil structure and suppress weeds; barley rids the field of fungus and pests. The ingredients in this beer both contribute to and result from the health of the whole farm. Brewed with malt grown in New York.

    4.5% ABV

Brewed and bottled October 2016. No exact bottling date given.

Pours a murky, golden straw color which is completely opaque.

Nose is of tart citrus, namely lemon and lemongrass, barnyard funk, lactobacillus, oats and wet grass.

There is a good amount of tartness upfront, with lemon rind, lactic sourness, and herbal earthiness, as well as wet grass and some hay.

Mouthfeel is light, crisp, and with a vibrant carbonation and a dry finish.

    Overall rating: A

I am now drinking another collaboration beer, which is yet another sour. This one is a collaboration between Brasserie De Blaugies of Belgium, and the renowned Hill Farmstead out of Vermont. This is La Vertontoise, a saison/farmhouse ale.

This one clocks in at 6% ABV.

The beer pours with a semi-clear, pale, golden-yellow/orange color and an aggressive, rocky 2-3 finger head. The beer has to be poured very slowly over the course of several minutes because of its intense head. The head fades with some retention which leaves a good amount of lacing on the glass.

The aroma of this beer has a predominating earthy funk, along with some wet hay, lemon zest, green apple, and LOTS of phenolic banana and clove-like notes.

The flavor is tart, zesty, spicy, and with a good amount of lemony citrus, floral hops and wet grass.

Mouthfeel is light bodied and with a sharp carbonation.

    Overall rating: A-

My final beer of the night was given to me by a friend. He did not like the beer, so instead of pouring it down the drain, he gave me the remaining six-pack.

This is 'Accumulation' by New Belgium, a white IPA.

Pours a cloudy, pale straw/orange color with a quickly dissipating two-finger head.

Aroma is of orange, lemon, wheat, grass and bready malts.

Flavor-wise it is much of the same, with a citrusy, earthy hop character, an herbal/floral presence, and some bready malts.

Mouthfeel is light-medium with a rather low amount of carbonation and a mostly dry finish.

    Overall Rating: C+

Drinking a beer by To Øl out of Denmark. This is Mr. Pink, a Berliner weissbier brewed with lychee and pink guava, balanced with wheat and tropical hops, notably Mosaic and Nelson Sauvin.

    4.5% ABV

Poured from a 16 oz. can into a snifter with a hazy, golden amber color.

Aroma is rather sweet, fruity and tart, with the guava and lychee quite noticeable. This is coupled with a tropical, dry-hopped aroma with notes of lemon and grapefruit, as well as some wheat, pale cracker malts, lactic funk, some spice, and some earthy yeast aromas.

Flavor is quite tart upfront with a dry hop bitterness. Lots of lemon, grapefruit, passionfruit, guava and lychee, coupled with some wheat, crackery malts, some pepper, and an earthy funk and lactic sourness.

Mouthfeel is extremely crisp, clean and refreshing, with a moderate but fine carbonation. Very crushable.

    Overall rating: A

Moving on to a beer from a brewery that only just recently (as in within the last week) started distributing in my neck of the woods here in WNY, this is Apricot Northwest Sour Ale from Cascade Brewing out of Portland, Oregon.

This is a sour ale aged in oak barrels with apricots. On the label it states that it is a blend of sour blond ales aged in oak wine barrels for up to 14 months with fresh apricots. This is a bottle-conditioned beer.

    Alcohol content is 7.2%,

Pours a deep golden-orange color with some slight haze and an initial inch of head.

In the nose there some intense apricot aromas coupled with sour lacotobacillus, lemon zest, white grape, oak, wet hay, as well as some white wine-like notes.

This beer has a mouth-puckering sourness upfront. This is an incredibly sour beer, and I like it. There is lots of juicy apricot, with some tart lemon, peach, white grape, oak, and lots of sour lactic funk.

The mouthfeel of this beer quite acidic, is light-medium bodied, with a fairly effervescent carbonation and slightly dry hop finish, but with some lingering sourness.

Overall an absolutely incredible sour ale! One of the best I have had!!

    A+

Now drinking Yacht from Stillwater Artisanal, a dry-hopped session lager.

Poured from a 16 oz. can into a pint glass a hazy straw yellow color.

In the aroma there is a nice earthy hop aroma with some grassy, herbal notes. This is coupled with some bready, cracker pilsner malts.

Flavor-wise it is very clean, crisp and refreshing. Like the nose, there is a grassy, herbal hop flavor, with a somewhat lemongrass character, along with some faint floral qualities and some sweetness from the pilsner malts, which have a breadiness to them as well.

Mouthfeel is light, with a moderate carbonation and a fairly dry, clean finish.

Overall, this would be the perfect beer for a hot summer day sitting out on a deck somewhere, or on a beach.

    B+

Moving on to my final beer of the night, this is Ayinger Oktoberfest-Marzen; an Oktoberfest/Marzen beer clocking in at 5.8% ABV. Ayinger is based out of Aying, Germany.

Generally speaking, I am not a huge fan of this style, though I figured I would give this particular one a shot since it is still in season and I have never had it before, and for the fact that it seems to get relatively good reviews.

I poured this one into my mug/stein glass which I got from Naked Dove's Nacktoberfest/Oktoberfest celebration held at their brewery in Canandaigua a week ago. It pours a nice translucent golden-orange/amber color with about an initial three fingers worth of head.

Aroma is of caramel, toffee, and dark, bready, biscuity malts. Some floral hop aromas, brown sugar, and spice as well.

Flavor is of sweet caramel malts, toffee, roasted nuts,(hazlenut, pecan), and some subtle fruity esters. The hop presence is faint but earthy.

Body is medium, with a medium level of carbonation, and a smooth, crisp mouthfeel.

Overall a very solid oktoberfest beer.

    B+

    Well, shit on me!
I can't believe it's been almost 3 weeks since I stopped by here!
Sorry y'all... I gotta try to stop by here every couple days, at least!

Anyway... I wanted to get my beer reviews started before catching up on the thread.
I'm almost done with my first beer of the night, but here it is anyway:

    (Alc. 5.7%)

On the nose: There's a dark hint of pumpkin and an over-arching spice. Tame citrus and apricot from the hops, with just the slightest breadiness underneath it all.

On the tongue: Dry and a whisper of bitterness is hanging out with the understated spices. Unfortunately, if I hadn't seen the label, I probably wouldn't have any idea that this was a pumpkin based lager.

Overall, not a bad beer. Certainly better than I expected, but that's only because it doesn't taste of and artificially flavored powders. Easily drinkable, but nowhere near being called a decent pumpkin beer.

    Halfway done with #2...

    (Alc. 5.8%)

Smell: Hmm.. very faint. Maybe the smallest hint of spice and just a sliver of pumpkin guts? Just... weird... barely any smell at all.

Taste: Smoke and charcoal, BAM, right up front! A tiny taste of whiskey with a sheer lace of... coriander? Like someone tossed half a shot of whiskey on smoldering campfire embers.

Overall... it's ok. I'm not detecting any pumpkin, but at least the mouthfeel is smooth. I wouldn't want to drink them all night, that's for sure.

I have to ask... what did you mean by "crushable"?

I was talking about that review with my wife and older son and they both were like "What's crushable mean?"
I started to explain it, but then I wasn't sure if I was right...

So now I gotta know... exactly what do you mean by crushable?

    Motherfucker!
Fuck you... and enjoy yer beer. :p

But seriously, that shit is awesome.
I think it's been two years since I last had it... just can't find it anywhere around me.
To be fair, I could be looking harder... and I haven't been out to buy beers in like a month or some shit.

Still... that is easily one of the best, if not THE best, pumpkin beers I've ever had.

    Haz gud yumyum tiem.

    Incredibly easy to drink.

Not always necessarily low ABV either, but generally not above 6-7 percent.
