Lol... true that. But honestly, it turned out really tasty! I could even sense a hint of the carrots, which ended up being such a pleasant taste that I may try it again, but with double the carrots!
Lately I have been so focused on domestic craft brews that I haven't had what was my first love among beers; Belgian ales. This is the first authentic Belgian ale I have had in a while. This is Barista Chocolate Quad by Kasteel. This is an 11% ABV quadrupel ale brewed with chocolate. I poured this one into my Chimay goblet. It pours a dark, rich brown, almost black color with some reddish copper around the edges. Almost no head to speak of. On the aroma it is predominately coffee, some dark chocolate, cocoa, and dark, roasted malts, as well as some faint toffee and vanilla. Flavor-wise, this beer is also chocolate-dominant, with lots of coffee/espresso and roasted malts, as well as some caramel, toffee, hazelnut, spice, dark fruit, and vanilla. Body is smooth, medium and creamy, with a fairly assertive carbonation for a quad. Overall, this beer is not very quad like, with chocolate, coffee and roasted malts dominating any of the dark fruit qualities characteristic of most quads. Overall an outstanding beer. That sounds awesome! I'm not usually tempted by sours, but I LURVE me some Key Lime Pie. I wonder if you could make Key Lime Pie with that Gose thrown in somewhere....
Fuck you. Fuck you twice over. Fuck you one more time. Why? Simple. I now want that beer. You have that beer and I don't. I've just taken a pic of the shot you posted of the bottle. I will bring a peeler with me, along with some eyelid-holding tape, next time I'm at thew liquor store. Fucking yummy.
Bruh, this shit is mad strong. I am fucked up atm, but then again, I had about 6 beers prior to the chocolate quads. Cot dayum I am fucked.
Damn kick I didn't know you were on the shore. I saw the pic of the beach haus and was like "what the funk is he doing there?" Had a good experience the one time I was there. The bar was closed and tours were not for a while because they were busy doing something in back but the guy let me have a flight in the store part anyway. My family is a bit north of there so my usual spot is cartons in the Highlands. So what's the best ones you been to up there?
The 2XIPA is decent, but not great. I haven't tried the Harvest, but I hear it's an ESB. Southern Tier seems to be very mediocre these days. I am not sure if it's because the quality of their beers has slipped, or that much better breweries have sprung up in recent years.
I had one of Heavy Seas' beers for the first time last week. It was the Loose Cannon IPA. It was pretty good, actually.
loose cannon was a coworker of mines favorite beer. i personally am into darker beers so no surprise i like the peg leg more. they are all above average from all the ones i remember though. edit: you have to keep in mind that here in delmarva there is not quite the variety of beer that most people in the country enjoy...especially in the lower half where my coworker was from.
I cannot wait to try this newly-acquired item.... Avery's Pum[ky]n, an 18.8% ABV pumpkin ale aged on bourbon barrels. This single 12 oz. bottle retails for $14, but I got it for half that. I think I will have to share this one.
Watching this circus of a debate, I am drinking Kirsch Gose from Victory, a gose brewed with cherries. While the peak season for sours is nearing an end as we enter the fall, I have been wanting to try this beer for a few months now before it disappears from the shelves, so I am drinking it in spite of this rather fall-like weather. 4.7% ABV. This beer poured a beautiful reddish/pinkish color from the cherries with a short head. Aroma is of tart cherry, rhubarb, musty yeast, wheat, and some lacto sourness. Flavor-wise, wow! This one really surprised me in how sour it is. REALLY nice! The tart cherry really adds to the sourness common with this style of beer. Some lemony notes in the finish, coupled with some wheat and salt. In terms of mouthfeel, it is light with a vibrant, prickly carbonation. Overall rating: A
I am now drinking a beer from Crooked Stave out of Denver, Colorado. This is their Hop Savant, an IPA brewed with brettanomyces yeast. Thus, it is a sour IPA. 7% ABV Pours a cloudy golden-orange with a rocky three-finger head which slowly subsides but has a decent retention. Aroma is very funky, with lots of barnyard characteristics (hay, horse blanket). Lots of earthy, grassy aromas, some citrus (peach, mango, pineapple), pepper, lemongrass. some oak, as well as white grape. Flavor is a good combination of sour and bitter, with both citrus and pine overtones. Some orange, lemon, green apple, white grape, grass, earthy herbs and oak, combined with a funky sourness from the brett yeast. Body is crisp, medium-light, somewhat creamy, and with a fine and fairly assertive carbonation. Overall rating: A
Now I am drinking a beer from Stillwater Artisanal called Extra Dry, a beer which is billed as a sake style saison ale. It's supposedly a saison bearing characteristics of Japanese sake and features sake rice. 4.2% ABV. Poured into my tulip glass a slightly hazy but mostly clear straw color with a three-finger head that fades rather quickly. This beer's aromas are quite subtle with earthy, grassy hops and crackery malts dominating the nose. Some lemon rind, lemongrass and pepper are noted. The flavor is of earthy, citrus hops (mostly zesty lemon and lemon rind), faint biscuity malts, pepper and some lemongrass. Mouthfeel is light, very crisp, very dry, and with a somewhat effervescent carbonation. It's like a saison, but lighter and more dry. A pretty interesting and different beer. Overall rating: A-
Now drinking Calyptra Session IPL from Jack's Abby A session IPL (India Pale Lager) clocking in at 4.9% ABV. Pours a hazy straw gold color with a one-finger head. Aroma is of earthy, grassy hops and crackery, biscuity malts. Some tropical fruits and resiny pine. Flavor is well balanced between earthy, floral hops and light cracker malts. Some citrus characteristics (lemon, orange) from the hops are present as well. Light-medium bodied, crisp and very smooth. Lightly dry. Overall rating: B+
Ive got a sweet baby jesus too,, I like that one as well. splitting them up with Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest..
