Now I am drinking Westbrook Gose, a gose from the Westbrook Brewing Co. out of Mt. Pleasant, SC. This is perhaps my favorite gose, along with Super Going by Grimm.

A gose is very similar to a Berliner weissbier in that it's a sour wheat beer originating in Germany. The difference is that a gose contains salt and coriander, whereas a Berliner weissbier does not. Both styles generally are also rather low in alcohol, as this beer, like the previous, is only 4% ABV.

I poured this one into my snifter. It has a hazy golden color with a fast disappearing head.

The nose is simultaneously tart and salty with some lactic yeast funk, lemon, wheat, bready malt and coriander.

Taste is very tart upfront with lots of sour lemon zest... the saltiness coming in towards the middle and through the finish, along with the coriander and pale, bready cracker malts.

Mouthfeel is light bodied, crisp, clean, slightly acidic, and with a medium amount of carbonation. The finish is dry. A highly refreshing beer that would be well-suited for hot weather consumption.

I am now drinking Excess IPL by Jack's Abby out of Massachusetts. This is an India Pale Lager, which, unlike an India Pale Ale, is made with bottom-fermenting lager yeast as opposed to top-fermenting ale yeast. In terms of the flavor, it has many of the same characteristics of an IPA, one being that it is very hoppy, but the body is more crisp and lager-like.

Poured into my pint glass with a hazy, golden-orange color and a two-finger head that lingers for a while before fading to leave a nice lacing on the glass.

Aroma is of intense tropical citrus. Lots of grapefruit, pineapple, orange and mango, some resinous pine, and some earthiness from the hops. The malts are rather faint and bready.

There is a nice bitter, citrus hop bite upfront in the flavor -- mostly grapefruit and orange. There is also some grassy hops and dank, resinous pine, as well some some sweet, caramel malts coupled with some breadiness.

Mouthfeel is light to medium, smooth, crisp, and with a fairly low carbonation.

So, scalliwags and muffinbumpers, looks like I finally made my way back to sitting down to a new beer (while at my comp).
    :D

I just finished a pint of a pretty damn good pumpkin brew:
    (Alc. 7%)

Smellin like: A nice robust, yet gentle, pumpkin smell... lofted up on a soft billow of spices. It smells sweet... with a constant undertone of "ale".

Tastin like: Mm.. .that's nice. A gentle smokey pumpkin, laced with spicey notes. Not too sweet... and I think just a hint of green leaves wisps by at the very tail end of a larger sip/gulp.

Overall, I wish I had more than just this pint!!! The flavors seem to ease off as you make your way through the glass, preventing an overkill on the taste buds. A pleasant experience top to bottom.
Just finished off my pint and that was damn nice... really wish I had another!!!!!!

Seems like an awesome summertime session beer.
But really, I think I'd love to try it.

Any way I can get my hands on it from Jersey Shore area?

I went out with my girl tonight to Joe Bean Coffee Roasters, a quaint, dimly-lit hipster coffee shop that serves not only coffee, but also has an outstanding selection of craft brews both on tap and in bottles. I had three beers while I was there, all on tap, two of which I will review below.

The first beer I will review, which was my second beer of the night, is Stillwater Artisanal Ales' On Fleek, a 13% ABV imperial stout.

Poured a rich, opaque black color with a one-finger tan head.

This beer is chock full of dark chocolate and coffee aromas on the nose. Very malt-heavy aroma with lots of roasted barley notes, as well as some molasses, dark fruits (plum), vanilla and some brown sugar.

Flavor is of sweet and roasted malts and chocolate. Lots of coffee, caramel and toffee as well. Some dark fruit, molasses and vanilla, too.

Mouthfeel is medium to full-bodied, with a slick, oily feel, somewhat chewy, and with a lingering finish.

The second beer is Say John Saison by Highway Manor Brewing out of Pa.

This is a 6.7% ABV saison.

Poured a hazy golden-orange color with little head.

Aroma is of funky brettanomyces yeast, lemongrass, some oak, sour fruits and earthy hops.

Flavor is sour upfront with some lemon, oak, and earthy hops.

Mouthfeel is light with a fair amount of acidity.

Now I am at home and drinking Jungle Boogie From Marz Community Brewing out of Chicago. This is a pale wheat ale brewed with rooibos tea.

    5.4% ABV.

Pours a hazy, medium-dark reddish brown with a two-finger head.

On the nose it's earthy hops coupled with some herbal notes, most likely from the tea, as well as some wheat malts. Some citrus and pine present as well, along with some faint, caramel-like sweetness from the malts.

Flavor is balanced between bitter, earthy hops, and herbal qualities from the tea. Some citrus fruits from the hops, wheat, and some caramel sweetness from the malts. Rooibos tea provides an equally herbal and earthy flavor present mostly in the finish.

Mouthfeel is medium-light and very smooth.

Well, this one was on tap. But yeah, I agree, the can is very uncharacteristic of the beer, its style, or its ABV.

Stillwater is known for, among other things (namely their beer), their very kitschy, hipster-like label art.

Now that I've checked out some other labels from Stillwater, I REALLY want to try their brews.

I'm not sue if any of the places around me carry it, but I'd be surprised if none of them did.
Seriously, I have a decent craft selection at... umm.. at least... 4 or 5 stores within 5 - 10 minutes drive of my home.
Soon to be at least one more... and another 5 minutes out expands that list by at least a few more, if not several... at a minimum.

    It's gotta be somewhere!

    Isn't that best kind? :D

I've made a beer with my Mr. Beer kit.
I didn't blow up a single thing... although I did ruin a pot that I used to heat some shit in.
But the beer turned out tasty... I think it was a wheat/IPA combo?
With a bunch of baby carrots thrown in the brewing "barrel".

Now I am drinking Key Lime Pie Gose from Westbrook. Previously I had and reviewed their original gose, which was very good, but this scores a whole three points higher at 94 on BeerAdvocate. I had been wanting to try this for ages, but it disappears from the shelves almost as soon as it hits. I was able to pick up this single can from Steamer's Basin Trading Company in Bushnell's Basin, NY.

    4% ABV.

I poured this into my snifter. It poured a hazy golden-yellow/orange color with almost no head to speak of.

Tons of sour citrus in the nose of this beer, primarily lime, as well as some lemon, as well as some pie crust like notes from the malts. Some salinity as well.

If you like tart, sour beers, then this is the one for you. Lots of tart lime and lemon. The "pie crust" characteristics come primarily from the bready malts that are used. The saltiness, characteristic of the style, is also present.

The mouthfeel of this beer is light and crisp, with a decent amount of carbonation.

This is probably the best gose I have ever had. I think what makes this beer better than the original is that the lime really adds a crisp tartness to what is already a very crisp, tart style off beer. This is an incredibly refreshing, crushable beer to say the least. This would be the perfect beer for hot weather consumption.
