Drinking The Brown Note, a brown ale from Against The Grain Brewery. It's a decent brown ale with lots of coffee and caramel malts in both the aroma as well as the taste. What's really cool about this beer is the can in which is comes in. Just have a look at this...
Right now I am drinking Not Your Father's Root Beer, the 10.7% ABV one. It's so easy to get fucked up on this.
just heard someone else say the 10% one is much better than the weak one. makes me want to try it more...not gonna happen around this shithole though.
Had some homemade absinthe I have been saving. No idea why I was saving it now. So finally drinking it.
Went to the Genesee Brew House for dinner tonight and had two beers while I was there... The first one was the Genesee Lilac Honey IPA. Kind of a different tasting IPA. Tasted kind of off upon first sip, but was actually pretty refreshing. The hops, honey and lilacs worked pretty well together. Overall a decent summer beer but nothing amazing. The second beer I had was the Genesee Brew House Rye IPA. This one was pretty good. Had a nice rye character and was a very well balanced IPA with a decent amount of maltiness.
Now I am drinking a German beer which I have not had in a long time. It's a world-class beer called Celebrator by Ayinger Brewery out of Aying, Germany. It is a doppelbock; a bottom fermented lager beer that is very heavy on malts, therefore sweet as opposed to bitter. Poured into my pint glass a dark amber/brown color with no head whatsoever, only a thin, creamy foam layer on the top of the beer. Nose is full of sweet malts and fruity esters, caramel, molasses, coffee and dark fruits. Flavor is sweet and malty, with coffee, toffee, caramel, plum and raisin. Mouthfeel is medium, creamy, and with low carbonation. Overall rating: A
Milwaukees best ice. And I am putting a jalapeño in it which makes it an OK tasting beer that is dirt cheap. Only problem is these are particularly hot jalapeños.
A triple chocolate creme martini, shaken (all over my kitchen, whoops) not stirred. See, I can be a class fuckin bitch sometimes.
They took fat tire out of my local bar. It was the only good beer they had...I mean they get OK seasonals sometimes but not always and I don't like summer beers as much.
And the sailor said... I am drinking this because the stores here stop selling beer at 2AM (fucking bullshit). My date with the gf ended late, so I am left with what is here at home because it is Friday (now Saturday) and I want to get hammered.
Tonight (Friday night) I went out to my favorite pub, which is the Old Toad in Rochester, New York, and had several beers while I was there, all of which were on tap. The first beer was USAlive by Mikkeller out of Denmark. This is a Belgian strong pale ale clocking in at 8% ABV. Pours a clear dark amber color. Lots of fruity esters (cherries, raspberries, currant, grapefruit) in the nose of this beer, along with caramel malts, some spice, and some wild brett yeast. Taste of of sweet fruit (stone fruit, grapefruit), some citric hop bitterness, slight sourness, caramel malts, and earthy wet grass and hay. Body is medium with medium carbonation. Overall rating: A- I also had another beer by Mikkeller while I was there. This is their Beer Geek Breakfast Stout, an oatmeal stout clocking in at 7.5% ABV. Pours a dark black color with little head. There's lots of biscuity and roasted malts, coffee and dark chocolate in the aroma. Flavor follows the nose very much with lots of very roasty malts and dark chocolates. Some bitterness in the finish, but overall quite dry. Mouthfeel is on the high end of medium, sticky, and somewhat slick. Overall rating: A I also had a beer which I have had many times before and is one of my favorites. This is the Old Toad's house beer, which is called OT20, a double/imperial IPA. This beer is a favorite of mine, but is even better when on cask. It pours a hazy orange color with a creamy one-finger head that quickly subsides to leave a faint lacing on the glass. Lots of citrus (pineapple, orange, mango) and some floral hop notes. The flavor features lots of grapefruit and pine, with some faint cracker malts. Body is incredibly smooth, slightly creamy, and with low carbonation. Overall rating: A
drinking Crown Valley's coffman coffee. pretty light and smooth for a coffee porter. it has all the things i like about coffee and none of the bitterness. this is like the Michelob ultra of porters. the flavor it has is good...but there isnt a lot of it. i could make a drink that tastes like this right now. pull out my coffee, put in 25% of what a normal coffee is. pull out some chocolate syrup put in just enough that you can tell that it is chocolate that you are tasting. add enough everclear to bring the abv up to 6.3% and there you have it. a crown valley coffman coffee.
