I never used to like it when it was the cheapest drink everybody would drink in high school it was much too sweet but maybe a little less than a year ago I bought one and I liked the taste of it. I have to try southern comfort again too but I recall a low % of alcohol so nuts to that lol.
Assawoman Bay transporter. Described as a robust porter. A very good smooth dark beer. 5.5% abv it's light at first but stronger on the back end. A slight hoppy taste which I don't like in dark beers but it's so slight that it takes nothing away from the sweetness though.
This is a really different beer. It's a sour ale with IPA characteristics. It smells like an IPA and has prominent hops upfront in the flavor, but finishes like a sour. I really like this a lot.
Biere de Provence, Dogfish Head. Definitely an interesting flavor profile. I like it, but don't know if I can finish a whole one. PR, do you like sour ale? People seem to be very divided on the matter.
I love sour ales, and I'm so glad to see these beers on the shelves more. I am seeing more and more sours hitting the shelves all the time. For so long the craft beer market has been dominated by IPAs, so it's good to see other styles starting to receive more attention. The trend I am noticing in beer at the moment is that there are a lot of artisanal IPAs coming out -- IPAs brewed with fruit, coffee, chocolate, peppers and other things. The gose style of beer is also gaining popularity, along with sour and wild ales. The beer market has more experimental beers than ever before. Beer is also becoming more and more local.
Ending the night with a classic west coast craft beer -- Bear Republic's Hop Rod Rye; a rye IPA. Tremendous flavor.
found blackjack porter from left hand brewery for the first time in a while last night. i remember the first time i had it, i was very new to craft beers and i was just starting to try different things. this was before i knew what a porter or ipa was. so i buy a box of 12 random craft beers, pretty much a mystery box that i guess is like you would get from a beer of the month club. i drink a few and there are some ok beers and a couple blah beers. then i took a sip of the blackjack, i remember very clearly my eyes popping open and thinking HOLY SHIT that is a good beer. by far the best one i have had up to that point. only problem is that shit is hard to find. i have only seen it in a store maybe 3 times in the 15+ years since i first had it.
That looks good, PR. I wish I had an ale...or at least I wished that last night when I first saw this photo....
Helloo there. I'm drinking more of my Garden State Stout beers again. Probably just stopping at 2 tonight. (I have to be up early tomorrow.) So, no new review this time around. Just figured I'd pop in and wave at y'all.
I feel like I've seen that along my travels. I'll have to keep an eye out for it. The reviews on Beer Advocate sound amazing. But this snippet is too good not to quote: "As it warms caramel notes become more prominent and rye flavors develop and create a strong urge for pastrami and German mustard." lol (But aweome.) I really have to try that shit!
Garden State Stout... again. Almost done with #2 and have one left. But should walk the dog before the last one, probably. and I don't mean go piss... I mean go walk my dog who looks something like this (just older, a little fatter and less white on the chest):
Scratch that... turns out the dog didn't want to go for a walk after all. So I went outside, played a quick game of Tetris while smoking part of a cig instead. Now I'm in the midst of pouring out #3, but it takes awhile... the head on these shits is crazy thick. Pour a little, wait for head to diminish, pour more, repeat until bottle is empty and glass is full.
