Drinking my final beer of the night (or is it?) -- Sierra Nevada Hoppy Lager, an IPL, or India Pale Lager. 7% ABV.
Turns out the final beer of the night is Stone's new Citrusy Wit. A decent witbier, but at the same time quite average and somewhat of a letdown for Stone.
HEYO! I'm catching up on the thread now, but yeah... I've been kinda missing in action. It's been like 3 weeks since my last "online beer". But tonight changes that! I'm almost finished with it, but my first brew of the night is this smooth dark ale... (Alc. 10.5%) (Pouring into English Pub style glass) Smell (from bottle): It smells dark and chocolaty... with a touch of raisins. There's a citrus note in there, with some smokiness curling around it. Taste (from glass... woah, that's a big thick head!): Mmm... that's smooth, with just a little burn in the back end, where you can taste a bit of charcoal. Creamy mouthfeel, retaining it's dark character. The chocolate notes are holding strong, the raisins seem to have all but disappeared. The citrus is blended in like a chameleon, keeping some contrast and definition in the body. Overall, not terrible at all. It's quite wonderful actually. I highly suggest this ale for anyone into the dark side of beer.
And when I mentioned "English Pub style glass", that's a new thing I have. Thank you, Father's Day!!! I got two sets of beer glasses!! But now I've got half a glass of my Terrible beer left. Which means I'll have to move on to my stout soon. Which is exciting, because the set includes a Porter/Stout glass too.
So, I finished off that Terrible beer. Now I'm onto my Garden State Stout... (Alc. 6.6%) (Pouring into Porter/Stout glass) Smell (from bottle): Bright and dark. Almost a slight perfume smell here, I think. A light raisin lift to the darker chocolate notes, Taste (from glass... which also has good head): Oh, this has "fun" written all over it! The raisins marched right to the front in taste, holding hands with the chocolate tones. Smooth charcoal/chocolate balanced by slight hops moments. Overall, another great brew! I'm getting more charred wood than I would've expected, but it's spirited by the balance from the hops. I'd highly recommend this brew as well (again, for dark brew drinkers).
Tonight I am drinking a newly released, limited release beer from Troegs called Nimble Giant; a double IPA. This will be a once a year release. It is really an outstanding brew, and probably one of the best double IPAs I've had. The hops are very juicy, with lots of nice fruity (grapefruit and pineapple), floral (honeysuckle) notes. The hops contained within this beer are Azacca, Mosaic and Simcoe. Very easy drinking for 9% ABV. I would definitely buy this beer again. This is my kind of IPA, and it comes at a time when I am getting sick of overly bitter and unbalanced IPAs, which this is not.
Yeah, I am so sick of those really piney, bitter IPAs. This one is nothing like that. It drinks extremely easy for a double IPA. The hops used in this beer are mostly the fruity, juicy ones. This is really what I would call an IPA that is suited for summer.
rebel rouser double ipa 8.4% hoppy taste as expected and strong hoppy taste but not so much that it is unenjoyable.
you must feel better about yourself because you drink your fancy craft beers....i know i feel better about myself when i am drinking a good craft beer
