Lagunitas Equinox Pale Oat Ale (8.4% ABV). It's a Double IPA made with oats, giving the beer a rich, full body. The hop character of this beer is quite different. Lots of orange and lemon rind with mango and some biscuity malts. The finish is somewhat dry. At $4.99-6.99 a bomber, their beers are among some of the most affordable for their fine quality.

    Good stuff.

Moving on to Ommegang's Gnomegang, a Belgian-style blonde ale clocking in at 9.5% ABV. I am drinking this one out of my Chimay goblet. This is a nice beer reminiscent of one of my favorite Belgian beers, St. Bernardus Tripel. I really like the yeast character to this beer, which really brings to mind some of the traditional Belgian blonde and golden ales. Lots of clove and herbal notes in the aroma and flavor, and the body is exceptionally creamy when consumed closer to room temperature. This easily gets an A from me. Ommegang never lets me down, and this is why they're one of my favorite American breweries, specializing in making authentic Belgian-style beers that are easily comparable to beers made in Belgium, but often much fresher and more affordable.

    Milwaukees best ice.

It gets a 10 for price and a 1.5 for taste. But the 5.9 for abv puts it just over what else is available in my area.

Drinking Firestone Walker's Easy Jack, a session IPA with a lower ABV at just 4.5%. Very nice IPA for a hot summer day or night. It's a refreshing but flavorful beer that goes down easy while not skimping on the beer's hoppiness.

Ending the night right with one of my absolute all-time favorite beers, and perhaps my #1 favorite Belgian ale, St. Bernardus Tripel (8% ABV). The body and flavor of this beer are like no other.

I used to have a St. Bernardus glass, but sadly it either broke or was lost. Which, I don't remember. So instead I am drinking it out of my trusty Chimay glass.

Drinking episode 13 B. Nektar strikes back.

Really disappointed with this one because of the price.
As for the taste really smooth a pleasant alcohol taste. It tastes like a good white wine. But that being said...I don't like white wine. I am really mixed on this one. But with a 15.5% abv at least I will get a good buzz from this overpriced mead that is aged in bourbon barrels.

I'm about to read through this page, but figured I'd drop this post first.

    I'm drinking.
    (duh, of course)

    Tonight's selection:
    (Alc. 8.5%)

Smellin it: This reminds me of whiskey aged beer, with a hint of smoke and possibly something nutty going on. There's a dark caramel spirit as well to go with the somewhat thicker soul that seems to be wafting into my nostrils.

Tastin it: Good stuff, almost chewable. Robust, woodsy/smokey and maybe a touch of raisin or currant-ness to it.

Overall, a right thick brew with a determined soul. If you like these hearty, darker, thicker ales... this one is worth chewing through.

I have been aware of Fort Collins, Colorado based brewery, New Belgium, for well over a decade now, but have only just recently been able to actually try their beers, which just started being distributed here in Western NY within the last couple months. Tonight I am drinking their Citradelic tangerine IPA. It's a very nice IPA, which, despite its name, is not extremely citrusy. There is some tangerine present, but it's not overt, and it seems to be coming mostly from the hops. Overall a very nice IPA.

One of the few micros I have always been able to get around here. That one isn't bad.. I was glad I only bought one though. It was part of a mix six and I rather try 5 others than just have 6 of these. (Good but nothing special)
