Saw this new beer from Southern Tier on the shelves within the last week or so. It looked interesting, so I decided to give it a shot. It's supposedly an imperial wheat ale brewed with blood orange juice, grapefruit and tangerine peels. Since this beer is new, there are only a handful of reviews online. It seems to get good reviews, but I cannot say I am impressed with this beer at all. It barely resembles beer (much less a wheat beer), and the body is very thin with little mouthfeel to speak of. This reminds me more of a shandy than actual beer. I wish I had spent the $14 I paid for this four-pack on something better. This is by far one of the worst beers I have had from Southern Tier, which is normally pretty excellent. The only thing this beer has going for it is a relatively high ABV at 8.5%. If this didn't cost as much as it did, it would be a definite drain pour, and I almost never say this.
I got a case of Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald , could not pass because it was only $25with tax.. not that's a big savings but eh'.. I do like their brews, not to many let me down..
had hop hunter from sierra Nevada and its name is misleading. I was expecting a very hoppy beer. it was very well balanced and pretty light. almost a session beer, I could easily have polished off a 6er last night if I had one. I definitely recommend it for summer or winter. drinking one I had on display now, its Weidenmayer jersey lager. I was just going to have it as an unopened bottle in my bar...kind of like a little slice of home (jersey) but I ran out of low abv beers and don't feel like going to the store. its about 4 years old which isn't good for a lager but it still tastes ok. its got a nice malty flavor and is on the lighter side. I am not upset about breaking it open, it is as good as I could have expected it to be....better actually.
Actually pretty much any imperial stout is better when aged. Also barleywines are better aged. And a few ipa's can be aged. Now the one I had is not one of them but you got to work with what you have.
I just found a bud light from like 9 years ago do you think itll be good? If i dont post again tonight i bit the dust
It wasn't good when it was fresh it sure as hell won't be good now. It won't kill you or even make you sick though. I have a few pretty old unopened bottles. Not sure how old though. I will check next time I go upstairs.
I have a Corona from 83. A Krakus light with no date but it looks just as old. A Spaten Munich light with no date that I know for fact is at least 15 years old but honestly it also is likely from the 80s. A Rheingold extra dry that looks older than all of them but once again no date. A grolsch that also is at least 15 and likely from the 80s. And a bud with no date but I bet a search for the label could give me an estimate.
drinking cucapa's green card. yes I bought it just because of the name (working with a Guatemalan might do that I guess) but I did like their brown ale and I am always up for a good barley wine. I had intended on aging this one but being I am drinking all the other ones I have been aging I figure this one should just follow suit. light for a barley wine. and you can tell their is alcohol in it but its light for a 10% beer. anise taste in the front but disappears soon after. definitely the most drinkable barley wine I ever had and the most carbonated. a few minutes in and its got no head but is sparkling like crazy. I could easily say this is the best one I ever had but the problem with that is their isn't much flavor compared to say....Brooklyn's monster ale. lets just say I enjoy it and could drink them all night....well it would be a short night if I was drinking these all night but it would be a good short night. that's about it, there really isn't much to this one. you don't say that often about a 10% beer or about a traditionally strong tasting style but this is unlike any barley wine I ever had before.
