Can't go wrong with that one. My father and I brewed 5 gallons of our own version of Old Rasputin. The results were rather amazing having been able to taste it freshly done.

I thought ours tasted a little bit better than the original. This was a few years ago. I believe we used the same ingredients, but may have tweeked the content amount to make it taste different. We've brewed mostly porters and brown ales from a recipe book at the home brewery supply store.

Hey guys.... I haven't been totally slacking in my drinking, but I've been either out of the house (!!!) or there was company over at the house.
So, I haven't been doing my reviews.
In fact, the last one I think I did was back in the middle of December.

    Ack! I'm slackin!

But damn if I ain't drooling at the thought of making some more home brew.
Turns out Ballast Point has a whole catalog of ingredients and supplies for home brewing (I totally want to use the Calypso hops).
Of course, who knows when I'll ever get around to doing that again.

Went out with my girl tonight and had a number of different beers.

    Bell's Winter White Ale
    Founders Rubaeus Nitro
    Brooklyn Sorachi Ace
    Founders Mosaic Promise

Now I am at home enjoying a Sierra Nevada Beer Camp Tropical IPA...

Did you have a favorite out the ones you tried?
Whatever the answer, it sounds like it was a good night!

I would say it was a tie between the Sorachi Ace and the Mosaic Promise.

    Right on.

It's possible I may actually get to drink again tonight.
I just have to ignore the Twisted Tea and Coney Island Root Beer in my fridge so I can get something better. :)

I have had the sorachi ace and out of all the home brews I have made my best one tasted like a sorachi ace clone. Unfortunately I did not care for it much. It was OK but wasn't what I hoped for. And the home brew...it wasn't the taste is was going for. I was trying to make a shock top style but a bit more bitter. I failed. I really should start brewing again.

I've only done it once... and that's with a 5 gallon Mr. Beer kit.
It came with 4 cans of brewing extract, 2 each of ... an IPA and a Wheat... maybe?

Anyway, whatever they were, I used 1 can of each when I made it.
And I threw in a few handfuls of baby carrots.
    Because why the fuck not.
(And we were lacking anything else that would've made any sense at all.)

I think the carrots came through just barely, like you'd have to know to look for it first.
Altogether, it came out really enjoyable... smooth, decent body, good head and the mix turned down the brightness of the IPA.

I'd love to get a more thorough operation going.
Unfortunately, there's no way I'll be doing that while we're in our current house.
We're (very hopefully) moving this year and I'm keeping my eye out for places with separate sheds/workshops or something.
Maybe I could brew enough to let a local place serve it up... who knows? :)

Right now I am drinking 'Super Fresh' from Peak Organic, which is an imperial pilsner that is super hoppy and 7.6% ABV. It has the hop profile of an IPA, but with the crispness and drinkability of a pilsner. This is really an awesome beer which has an excellent citrusy, spicy and even herbal hop profile. It's true to its name as this beer has an extremely fresh hop flavor. This is definitely one of the best beers I have had in recent times. I will be buying this again for sure. Even the beer's aroma is incredible with some grassy notes combined with fruity, citrus hop notes.

    Scores a 90 on BeerAdvocate:

Pressed Rat, that sounds like a great brew for the summer time!
At least, if you're into those flavor profiles.

Personally, I tend towards a shandy for summer session drinking.

    lol

Yeah, it didn't start out as a beer review thread, but I got lazy and started just posting when I was drinking.
Then I would wander off to do other things instead of posting weird shit in here.
And so, other people started posting their reviews... and now we have a thread that's mostly beer reviews.

I should do something about that.

Ok, took a minute or two, but I checked back through the whole thread to make sure I wasn't double posting this.
It's just a totally sweet pic, is all.

(Oh yeah, back to beer for a sec... I had some. :D )

    Anywhatever...

    ...

There's just something awesome about this to me:

Drinking one of my favorite brews at the moment. This stuff goes down way too fast for being 9.5% ABV. This beer has one of the best hop profiles I have tasted in an imperial IPA.
