Speaking of "Bundy"... apparently David Faustino may star in a Married... spin off about Bud! Check it out by clicking this sentence!
Woah... shit.. fuck... damn... fuck... Just hit beer #5. The thing is, beer #4 was the last of a 4 pack of that Sixty One. While beer #5 is the last beer from my Milk Stouts. But I forgot what I was drinking when I went to take my first sip. And, well... fuck... going from an IPA to a Stout without thinkg about it can be jarring to say the least.
I was at the brewery yesterday. Those premium bottles of beer are a little more expensive there than at discount beer stores but i guess you know they alway have a fresh stock. Gota 4 pack of fort and a growler of the chicory stout. Got 2 of those math beers at a local beer store sunday.
Moving on to 21st Amendment Brewery's Brew Free or Die IPA. I am really loving this and am surprised it only gets an 87 on BeerAdvocate. I was expecting at least 90. Lots of citrusy centennial hops in this one. I am really digging it.
Had six different beers tonight. At the British pub me and my girl went to, I got a cask ale -- a double IPA which was exceptionally smooth.... a Bell's Brown Ale.... and some dessert beer which was very strong in which I cannot remember the name of.... Later we went to an Irish pub where I had a Brooklyn Dry Irish Stout, a St. Bernardus Christmas Ale, and a Southern Tier 2XMAS... all on tap. Fresh Hopped OT20 Double IPA (cask ale) Bell's Best Brown Ale
I am much too lazy for pictures but having Forgotten boardwalk brewing co. Boardwalk ale and just had their smoked porter. The smoked porter is good but needs to be paired with a smoked fish or something like that. The boardwalk ale tastes like a cheap macro with some good vanilla flavor added.
I almost got a funnel cake beer from Forgotten Boardwalk just recently, but ended up... I think that may have been when I got the Milk Stout. Or maybe it was the Sixty One. Either way... I didn't get the funnel cake beer... it sounded like it might be too sweet to enjoy a whole six-pack. (But looking at reviews, it wouldn't have ben the sweetness that I minded, it would've been the relative blandness and non-creamyness.) BUT... that's not what I came here to talk about. This is: I'd still love to try that beer, but in the meantime, I did get to try the ice cream. And let me tell you, that is some awesome shit! I had to force myself to stop eating before I devoured the whole pint in one sitting. So. Fucking. Good. You could really taste the beer in the ice cream, not in a "yuck, why is there beer in my ice cream" way... more like "holy shit, this beer in my ice cream is so good, I want to have sex while I eat it!" way.
The boardwalk ale is the funnel cake beer. I dont know why they have 2 names for all their beers but anyway the reviews seem about right to me.
Drinking Backwoods Bastard from founders. I am very happy. It reminds me of a lighter Bourbon county stout but has a light caramel taste. You can still taste the alcohol but it is very drinkable. Its kind of like the alcohol is meant to be one of the flavors of the beer. The bubbles dance on the tongue for the first few sips. After that the taste seems to get lighter which shouldn't make sense. Half way through and the alcohol is stronger in smell than in taste the whole beer seems to get lighter. Maybe its like a hot bath. I am now used to the intenceness of the strong flavors. Or maybe I just have a buzz from the high abv.final thoughts before I click POST. The smell is MUCH stronger than the taste now. Just about halfway finished over 20 minutes. I wish I could experiment more with it but money and high abv (11.6) prevents that.
My local food lion is really picking up their game. I got a sixer of "best damn root beer" and of the four hard rootbeers i had it is easily the best. Its the only one that passes as a good root beer even if there was no alcohol. They also got their first craft bomber.something from parkway brewing...its a local brewery. They had all their stuff. I also got their baltic porter. Its pretty good. Ohh and i had shock tops strawbanero. Its actually the best hot pepper beer i ever had. The smell is like fake strawberry soda but the taste is an ok strawberry wheat on the front then the pepper burn dosnt come in until the back end.
drank the bomber, the smell was a strong fruity flavor considering this is a Russian imperial stout but the taste was one of the lighter RIS's I have had. you can taste the fruity and hoppy tastes in there but they are so light that you forget its an imperial. and at 10% abv it does deserve the name imperial. overall I am happy with this one although I was worried when I smelled it. I prefer more burnt or chocolate tastes from my RIS's but although it has more of a fruit and hop taste it is light enough that I don't mind the slight fruit taste....even if it does have a strong smell. I just don't smell it while I am drinking and all is well. picture didn't upload so I will just say it was dark hollow from blue mountain brewery. and maybe some day I will post the pic.
Here's what I just recently finished off a 4-pack of for the night: (They were regular 12oz, not big bottles like the picture would have you believe) And my review from when I opened the first one:
That was the one. That head looked like a sponge. The girl holding that bottle of piercing pils just has small hands.
WOAH! You're right! I totally thought that was some big ol pint bottle or something, but after looking again... yup, it says "12 oz" right there on the bottle. Crazy, man! (Also kinda hawt.)
This weekend should be an interesting one. Going to two concerts in nyc and going to as many brewpubs as i can fit in to my short time off. And of course gonna stop by a bottle shop and hopefully will get some stuff that i cant get home.
