So, done with #1. Now we're moving from the Arctic to... outer space! (I've been dying to try this ever since I saw the cans just before they were put on the shelf, months ago.) Beer#2: (Alc. 6.7%) (Cypress Brewing - Runway Models in Space) Smell: Candied citrus beauty and faint sweet pith. A body between cracker and bread. Taste: Earthy citrus and slightly sweet pith are presented on a thick biscuit body. Faraway bitter notes curl in on the sides, cresting as it fades out. Overall, this is a wonderful brew. I'm betting it was even better a few months ago. It smelled so good, I gave up on getting any more detailed before trying a sip for my tasting notes. It's a lot more earthy and grassy than I expected, but I suppose I wouldn't know what space tastes like anyway. And for a pic(s), I've found these:
Alright, motherfuckerz... time to move on to the monster of the evening. I'm hoping it's wonderful, but it's always a gamble with higher alcohol content brews, yeah? yeah. (Ok, so maybe it's always a gamble, regardless of alc content, but whatever) So, let's see what happens here. Beer #3: (Alc. 13%) (Evil Twin - Even More Bible Belt) Smellin: Dark coffee and dark chocolate slowly and deliberately walk forward. Wisps of sneaky vanilla and oak in the background provide cover for the even more elusive chilies. All borne upon a respectful biscuit backbone. Tastin: Dark coffee/chocolate deliberately step up, supported by a bready biscuit of a backbone. Soft vanilla undercurrent tinted by oak notes provide cover for elusive chilies. Overallin, this shit is awesome. AWESOME. AWE. SOME. It's like Heaven, if Lucifer was in charge. Dark, delicious and delicious and delicious. What do I truly desire? More of this fucking beer (and for Lucifer not to be cancelled). Shit man... y'all need this brew in your lives. I know it's not the Bible belt, but... I got this for a pic:
I have it in my life, I thought it was a little to boozy. I know it's 13% but I have had bigger beers with less booziness.
It really didn't come across boozy for me. Maybe it depends on how fresh it is? For me it was wonderful. (Obviously.)
Gave it a 4.25 on untappd so clearly I liked it but for me to use words like wonderful it has to be a 4.75 or 5.
I gave it a 5. Maybe a bit generous, but I really fell in love with it. Like a soft, fluffy, wool pillow. It could be that having had ales before the stout made it that much more impactful.
That will make a difference. Many a times I had a decent beer and then switched to a good one and you are just left wondering...why couldn't that first beer be made as good as this one. But if you start with a good one it has been too long since the last average beer to really compare how great it really is.
Seconded. Great beer reviews and sexy AF pics. I know we have a thread called Post the Sexiest Pic You Can but Kick's posts destroy everything in that thread.
I've hardly drank at all the last 6 months because the comedown/next day hangover isnt worth the buzz for me anymore But very very occassionally a couple of drinks can help me find my zen. Tonight is one of those nights. I've had a stressful week but I feel i'm in a good, relaxed place after a couple of beers. Debating if I can keep this nice balance with a 3rd beer or if I should call it quits at 2 I'm just drinking Newcastle, nothing fancy, it was in the fridge, i grabbed it.
Remember I said I found a great growler fill station in Delaware? Well I did but then I looked up the reviews and someone mentioned state line was better. One of the biggest complaints was parking. Cost me a buck to park for an hour. Sure state line is free but there is a toll to get into Maryland and out...anyway. I walk in and it's all bud and a handful of locals. Then I walk around the corner and it was like I walked into a tardis? The shit went on for dozens of yard sticks. A ridiculous amount of overpriced Belgium's and other similar European ales. Also lots of locals but there was enough hard to find stuff to justify the toll costs. 90% was bottles nobody wanted or they want to be left alone. I mean when you get every beer of a never was cool brewery in Belgium and they don't sell. It. I rambled enough, even I can't decipher my thoughts. Not drunk either...thats all tiredness.
Picked up a bottle of dank wood from founders on my recent trip to my new favorite beer store outside of nj. And now I can't find it.it was in the 4 pack container I carried into the house. At least I thought it was. And even if I drunkenly drank it.. there is no empty bottle. It's like someone broke in and stole one bottle of beer and left....i will update because I'm not going back to New Jersey until I find it or search every crevice where it can possibly be.
I had the same problem with dish soap a couple weeks ago. A brand new unopened bottle of soap just vanished from my home. Poof.
I feel your pain, I searched the garbage and everywhere in the house. I will search the car in the morning when it is light out. If I still don't find it then I might have to make a special trip to Maryland just for a single bottle.
Oh hey! I just saw Dank Wood recently. Should be easy to find again, if they still have it. There's only 3 places it could've been and I don't remember it being at the store I went to tonight. At least not in the singles section. But yeah, if you can't get it... I could probably find where it is without much issue, if you're interested.
And HELLO EVERYONE!! What a hell of an absence I'm coming back from, hey? Three freakin weeks? yikes But I'm back again and ready to get some beer reviews going! I have a roster of IPAs tonight that won't do much good if I keep yammering on about what I'm going to do, instead of getting the damn beer! Back in a bit...
Ok... Let's get it on! Beer #1: (Alc. 6.7%) (Half Acre Beer Co - Vallejo) Smell: Sweet pith and grapefruit served up on a biscuity/bready body. Faint pepper lines the far edges. Taste: Bready grapefruit up front in a softly bitter presentation. Thin pepper notes line the piney background. Overall, it's a decent IPA. Pleasant and unassuming. It would make a great sipping beer for summer afternoons. And instead of a pic, there's only one thing I should post here:
