My name is there_she_gose ...er, that might be on beer advocate , cant remember if I joined untappd I thought I was being very clever with the name Until I found out how gose is pronounced
They're weird Sorta cloying There's a local brewery that makes an okay one, I drink it because its one of the only craft beers sold at the gas station by my house and I'm big on convenience and not venturing too far out into the world But I'm not crazy about it
I've noticed my tastes changing a bit. Like I'm starting to enjoy IPAs more than I suspected I could, but that's variety for ya! Like tonight, my first two brews are IPAs. Such as... Beer #1: (Alc. 7%) (Omnipollo - Shploing) (According to the brewery, this is a "mango s'mores IPA") Smell: Sweet citrus hops are boldly up front, with mango directly alongside. Creamy vanilla body hides a faint whisper of graham cracker. A sense of marshmallow camouflages in as the backdrop. Taste: Calm mango on a fluffy cloud of citrus hops and a hint of vanilla. Bittersweet whispers lean forward on the back end. Faint cracker notes. Overall, not a bad brew. I don't know that I'd consider it reminiscent of s'mores, but the mango is certainly in there. It's somewhat creamy and fairly balanced with some bitter hops, but not overpoweringly so.
I meant to be much faster at downing my brews tonight, but alas... I'm drinking at normal speed and I had to walk the dog. But enough of that jibba jabba, let's get it on! Beer #2: (Alc. 6.8%) (Funk Brewing - Silent Disco) Smells: Soft citrus and melon wafts up gently. Supported by a faint, bready backbone. Tastes: Dreamy hops bring forward citrus and melon notes. Crusty bread defines the backbone, with suggestion of bitter sides. Overall, a flavorful brew. Darker in taste than expected, almost enough to hint at some sort of spices. Well suited for late night fireplace gazing. And I grabbed a fairly fitting pic for this one:
Aha... that makes sense then. I'll go ahead and hit that Add button. (Then refill my glass with tonight's third beer!)
My wife was just telling her bestie about this being a thing. Granted, she was relating a wine fueled night, but same idea. Sounds like a great idea for a brewery to use for introducing new brews!
In other news... Beer #3! (Alc. 10.5%) (Off Color - Dino S'mores) Smellin: Coffee notes rise up immediately, followed quickly by bittersweet dark chocolate. A faint graham cracker spine carries hints of marshmallow, effectuated further by notes of vanilla and molasses. Tastin: Velvety dark chocolate and black coffee right up front. A vanilla/molasses body provide a beautifully mired base. Whisps of graham cracker lend nuance. Overallin, this is a beautifully crafted brew. Fuck McDonald's, I'm lovin THIS muthafuckin beer! Not a party beer to be swilled... enjoy the fuck out of this black beauty, properly!
Yeah. I been to 2 breweries since I last was on the site/app I am a bit behind on updating. I see that tradition continuing being that I joined after having 1000s of beers.
Haven't heard of uptappd but I think I'm on Beer Advocate. Some site like that. Have yet to contribute yet. I'm such a beer newbie that I fear my tastes will be criticized as "too mainstream, bro"
Yeah, I just give stars, I have yet to do an actual review I just cant pick out flavors..like the one above where kick describes his beer as having a spine of graham cracker with marshmallow and..etc etc I dont notice all that, I just notice if the flavor combo actually tastes good or not I can pick out spices sometimes because I love to cook so I know my spices So my review would be like : Went down smooth. Tasted good. A hint of coriander. The end.
I wrote some reviews on paper while drinking beers before with the intention of posting them, but never got around to it. They're in a notebook in my desk drawer
Honestly, ANY review is more than what most people do. And I've never seen anything on Untappd where people put anyone down for their reviews. I look at it this way, having anything other than stars helps others to know if it sounds like a brew they would want to try or not. Just write what you think and it's a good review. (Also, a good tip is to read the label... I would never have guessed "graham cracker" if it hadn't been printed there!) It took me a couple years of posting about beers I was drinking before I started really getting into the specific flavors more than "tasty shit, man". So, not a big deal either way.
