I thought Hill Farmstead's Double Galaxy was incredible, but I think this one just might take the cake as being the best double IPA I have had. Tons of grapefruit, orange, and pineapple, with a fair amount of earthy dankness as well. The body of this beer is what really gets me... really creamy and full-bodied. 8% ABV 5/5
I know I always say, but honestly people... I really mean it every time. I should drop by more often!! I mean... 2 weeks? What's that shit?? Shame on me. Ok, enough self-flagellation, how's about I move onto beer? Yeah? cool Beer #1: (Alc. 6.5%) (O'Fallen - Jack-O-Latte) Smell: Light pumpkin pie greets me first. As pie is wont to do, it's quickly followed by pie crust. Taste: Creamy pumpkin pie. Ever so slightly bitter far on the back end. A bit thin in the body for a stout, but it's ok man. Overall, a pretty nice pumpkin brew. No flavor jumps out to punch me or anything, just an easy going experience. Thinner than I generally like my stouts, but fairly expected so not an unwelcome surprise or anything. The bitter ghost in the back end is really faint. The lower alcohol content makes it a decent social drink for Autumn. - (No pic, but please feel free to add one that you think fits the beer!)
Oh hey, lookie here. Another reason why I should be checking in more often! (Maybe just DM me on Twitter, I check that shit every day.) Sorry I missed you!
Alrighty... on to beer #2! Jumping into a higher alcohol content, we have: (Alc. 10.4%) (Georgetown Trading - James E Pepper 1776 (Rye Whiskey Barrel Aged)) Smellin: BAM! Rye whiskey jumps right out. Strong bready backbone. Raisin sweetness. Perhaps a touch of clove. Tastin: Sweet & bready up front. Rye whiskey walks along with the forward flavor. A smoky soul throughout. Overall, this is sweeter than I prefer. That being said, it embodies the flavor profile well. A bit more hops may have provided better balance, otherwise this is better as a carefully sipped brew.
Ho lee fuck!! This is one mindfuck of a beer. And it's 14% ABV. Imperial stout brewed with coffee, vanilla and maple syrup. 5/5
I'm just willing to try it Not expecting it to become a regular or fav beer. Also of course because technically its a brewed cocktail
There are plenty of great beers made with just traditional ingredients (barley, hops, yeast, water). I like those too, but I also like beers with ingredients that push the boundaries to create something new and different. If all beer was made with the same four ingredients, things would get boring pretty quickly. Some people like just simple lagers. Nothing wrong with that either.
It's an Other Half kind of night. Something To Drink When All The IPA Is Gone -- This is an Other Half / Bellwoods / Evil Twin collab. A Helles lager with some floral, grassy characters and some sweet, bready pilsner malts. Simple but nicely done. 4.6% ABV 3.75/5 Double Dry Hopped Citra Daydream -- Super creamy IPA brewed with oat cream and lactose. Getting some grapefruit, guava, lemon zest, and an earthy dankness. 6% ABV 4.5/5 Chimera -- Stigbergets collab. Very smooth and creamy double IPA with lots of dank, green vegetal characters. Juicy, but very earthy as well. ABV is well hidden. 8.7% ABV 4.5/5
