Drinking Primo Remix from Interboro, a double dry-hopped double IPA. I'm getting lots of pineapple, grapefruit and citrus rind with some yeasty bubblegum esters. Light-medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Awesome stuff! 8% ABV 4.5/5
Anyhow... Ending the night with a dark beer before I fuck some dark pussy. Ok, the last part was a lie. But this is You're In The Jungle Baby, an Evil Twin / Jackie O's collab. This is an imperial stout brewed with Pasilla chili, honey, tangerine peel and cocoa nibs. Smokey as a muthafucka with lots of dark roasted malts and a slight amount of chocolate sweetness. Full bodied and slick. 12% ABV 3/5
Stopped by Kelly brewing on the way to my sisters. The place sacked but the beer was really good. Coffee porter had minimal coffe taste. The esb was pretty bitter. One of the most bitter beers I really enjoyed. (Yes I know what esb stands for but this one was really really bitter) The ipa I had I don't remember now but it was enjoyable. It went down super quick partly because the place was closing and it was only a 5 oz pour and it was just that good. I still have 3 hours till hockey so stopped in eight and sand which was just a few miles away. Asked for a flight and asked for recommendationsome. Told her I like dark beers. For some fucking reason she gave me a Saison...it was a good Saison compared to others I have had but I still have yet to have one that I would buy again. The ipa is light and fruity a great session beer...if it wasn't 6.2% Drinking the bad hombe now. It's on nitro...no growler available. I might have gotten this one to go. It's like a Murphys stout with a spicy kick of sorreno peppers. Most interesting beer I had in a couple months. Coffee porter is last for the night. Better coffee taste than kelly's. It's like a sweet coffee brew mixed with a bitter coffee bean.... Got a growler to go at both places so I will have 2 more beers to rate later.
Is drinking beer out of one of those glasses really best practice? What is the difference between that and just sipping out of the can?
Appearance and aroma mostly. Drinking from a can or bottle, you're missing out on much of the aroma when you bring it up to your mouth, and aroma has a big effect on taste. But to me drinking from a glass is just more enjoyable. And I like to know what I am drinking looks like. Aesthetics, yo. There are different types of glassware for different styles of beer.
^ I have a small collection of beer glasses. You frequently can get one for free when you buy a packaged amount of special beer. Probably the same over there? I love it. I like the beer glasses but would not buy them :-D
I bought a set of glassware and it came with a nifty little chart to know which glass for which beer. And it explains why each glass works best with that particular beer so I even feel somewhat knowledgeable now - like some beers call for stems so your hand doesn't warm the beer, or some glasses are made to allow for a thick head, etc
Oh...WOW!! Stone's W00t stout...I've finally met my match. This is a beer that can flat-out kick my ass. Easy drinking but at 13% ABV it's too heavy for me... Anyone else had this?
Well, it's been two fuckin weeks and I thought about popping in to say howdy almost every day of it. But I didn't. Because I'm lazy. But I love you. *bats eye lashes* I have a few pages to catch up on, but in the meantime... The first beer of the night: (Alc. 8%) (Schlafly - Pumpkin Ale) Smell: Dark spiced pumpkin pie. First, browned pumpkin quickly followed by spices. Bready crust rounding out the profile, with a waft of booziness at times. Taste: Boozy warmth presents the pumpkin. Spices fill out the body. A ghost of pie crust creeps by in the last moments. Overall, it's alright. The booze overpowers the pumpkin, but not too harshly. Definitely not the top of my pumpkin beer list. Probably not as good as The Greater Pumpkin above. And I got a pic to go with this one! A classic hottie! (Both inside and out!) Who is it? None other than...
That makes me miss City of Heroes. I was in a Supergroup called 'Pinnacle on Tap', where we all had characters based on alcoholic drinks. I had several, but right now I'm thinking of my dual-blade wielding, Syrah. She was pretty damn awesome. Let me see if I can find a pic... oh wait... external hard drive is plugged into Mrs. Frenzy's comp. Nevermind. But she was dressed in all black with a red sash or some shit. And a high top pony tail. Just pretty bad-ass. One of my favorite characters on CoX!! Someday I'll find that pic...
For instance, long stemmed glasses (akin to wine glasses) will let the beer remain as cold as it can be for as long as possible. Short stemmed (like a snifter) warms slowly due to your hand on the glass, bringing out other characteristics (especially for darker brews). Here's a quick and dirty reference: http://tablematters....beer-glassware/
And now on to the "palate cleanser". Although, I'm not sure I'd claim it to be cleansing, really. Anyway... Beer #2: (Alc. 6.3%) (Bolero Snort - TVB (Tropical Cream Pop IPA)) Smells: Sweet, grassy hops. Fruity pineapple, with a slight bitter curl. And just a hint of vanilla. Tastes: Fairly bitter hops jumps right out. Pineapple pith undercurrent. A hint of grass... somewhere. Overall, this is an IPA. Not as fruity as I expected, but a good solid IPA for those who favor this style. Certainly more bitter than I like!
