Drinking stillwater's cloud. If this is one of the great ipa's I am missing something. It is without question a good beer....it is properly rated as a B- or C+.
2x stout mixed with water.. stretching it out because I dont wanna be hammered just want something to drink..
Saw many people rave about stillwater and wrote that before looking at the ratebeer reviews. They are mostly around your star range...and I agree with that.
Several beers I've had this evening... Power Pop by Grimm -- a dessert Berliner Weiss brewed with lactose and vanilla. Super smooth and creamy mouthfeel with a subtle hint of vanilla. The sour flavors are balanced with the dry-hopping of this beer. By far the best of Grimm's 'Pop' series. 4.8% ABV 4.75/5 Hallo Ich Bin Berliner Weisse Mango by Mikkeller -- a Berliner Weisse brewed with mango. I was expecting more of a mango presence. The fruit character is weak compared to the others from this series. This is the weakest so far. 3.7% ABV 3.25/5 Skadoosh (#9 Mosaic) by The Alchemist -- an IPA that is part of a series of IPAs utilizing various hops from batch to batch. This is the Mosaic hopped version. This is super dank and resinous with a ton of Mosaic hop bite. Nice, but I prefer batch #8. 7% ABV 4.25/5 21st Anniversary Hail to the Hop Thief Double IPA by Stone -- a malty, boozy double IPA that is surprisingly smooth and drinkable despite its nearly double digit alcohol content. This is surprisingly a very solid West Coast double IPA.. 9.8% ABV 4/5
Even some of the beers I drink are not available locally. But I belong to various beer trading/buying groups on Facebook, which gives me access to beers I might not otherwise be able to obtain where I live. Of the beers pictured above, three of them are available locally. The only one that isn't is the Skadoosh from The Alchemist. Their beers are virtually unobtainable outside of Vermont unless you know someone who has access to them that is willing to sell or trade. And rollin.... like I said before, one of the best breweries in the US is in your own back yard.... Monkish. They specialize in making these super juicy looking beers that many of the best East Coast breweries are making. Monkish is to the West Coast what Tree House and Trillium are to the East Coast. If I lived where you do, I would be at Monkish every week.
I am now drinking Splish from Grimm, a double IPA. Tons of juicy orange, melon, and a bit of white grape, with a good amount of malt sweetness in the finish. 8% ABV 4.25/5
Don't I have to actually go to the brewery though to get their stuff?? LA sucks... I don't wanna go there. But I might have to make an exception on one of my days off to pick up some of their brews..
Yup, brewery only. But it's worth it. Their can releases are sketchy, though, since they don't announce them ahead of time. You kind of have to be there at the right time. But you can still check out their taproom and get growler fills.
My second time having this beer, and I would easily have to rank this among my top 10 IPA's This is Bodhi from Columbus Brewing Co. out of Ohio. It's a double IPA with lots of dank pine and orange citrus. There is a sweet malt backbone to provide balance. The drinkability here is incredible for the ABV. Super smooth and insanely drinkable. 8.3% ABV 4.85/5 INCREDIBLE!!!
I am actually not drunk at all. I have been off on vacation the last week and a half, and I've been drinking A LOT, but unlike my regular nights off, I have been pacing myself much more. These have been consumed spread out over a while.
So far this evening it's been... Jester/Strata from Upstate Brewing Co (Elmira, NY). This is a double/imperial IPA of the New England style. Cloudy, juicy and nicely dank with a moderate level of bitterness. 7.2% ABV 4.25/5 Deep Cut from Big Ditch Brewing Co. (Buffalo, NY) This is an old skool malty and somewhat sweet double/imperial IPA. Very dank, resinous, citrus hop character, and ultra smooth. Very solid! 8.2% ABV 4/5 Powder Dreams - Citra Lupulin from Captain Lawrence Brewing Co. (Elmsford, NY). This is an IPA brewed with Citra lupulin powder. Nicely sweet and juicy. The sweetness really helps to bring out the Citra lupulin powder. 7.5% ABV 4.35/5
My finial beer of the night is a BIG one. And I do mean BIG!!! This is Uncle Jacob's Stout from Avery Brewing (Boulder, Colorado). An amazing, super strong imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels and coming in at a WHOPPING 14.9% ABV. Getting tons of semisweet chocolate, chocolate liqueur, bourbon, vanilla and caramel. Very boozy, but delicious! As it gets warmer it gets smoother and drinks like silk! 4.85/5 STELLAR!!!!
Drinking Jenny Said from Singlecut (Astoria, NY) -- a double-dry hopped IPA. Lots of juicy orange and mango flavors, with some earthy green characters. 7.7% ABV 4.35/5
Now drinking Alien Church from Tired Hands (Ardmore, PA). This is a an AMAZING IPA. I am getting some sweet juicy orange, berry, melon, and a hint of dank pine resin. Extremely soft and easy-drinking IPA. Quaffable as a mofo. 7% ABV 4.65/5
