I was not sure what to expect from this beer. I love Prairie's dry-hopped sours and their imperial stouts, but was let down by their Phantasmagoria double IPA. However, I must say I am pleasantly surprised by this 'Prison Rodeo', a double IPA (9.5% ABV) brewed with Ethiopian coffee from Spaceship Earth Coffee. I like how the coffee flavors here are really bold and intense, and almost perfectly match the bitterness from the hops to create an intensely flavorful beer that perfectly pairs these two ingredients together. By far the best coffee IPA I have had. 4.35/5
I always seen this thread in the mornings, when I'm at work. You guys make me want to quit my job and go home and get my drink on.
Oh man... I wonder if it'll be morning when Neoprene sees these next few posts, too... *shrug* Whatcha gonna do? Onward! First beer of the night (which I already finished): (Alc. 7.2%) (902 Brewing - Kiwi Krush) Smell: Dry hops with a bitter touch hits me altogether with citrus and stone fruit. I could be wrong, but I feel like there's faint white pepper off in the background. Taste: Dry, barely bitter, hops up front. Sweet grapefruit quickly follows. Slightly wheat-y finish. Overall, a fairly crushable beer. As I've said before, IPA brews aren't really my thing... but, I'm happy if I get a tasty one. This is easily one of the tastiest IPAs I've had. (I gave it a 4.25/5 on Untappd)
Nah, I have a four day work week. I'm home and buzzed. I just wish I could do a "real" beer review like you. Right now I'm just like, "Barley wine...10% alcohol...my head is swimming, so I approve.
Well, hey... I started doing these beer reviews for about a couple years. So, I've gone from where you are now to where I am now in that time. I've learned a lot over that period of time. A good chunk of that learning came from this thread, more specifically PR's reviews helped me figure out what to smell/taste for. I love to hear any reviews though! The main point is how it tastes to you and whether, in your opinion, it's a good beer or not . With that in mind, please feel free to post pics/reviews... no matter how they come out!
And speaking of reviews... Here's beer #2! ? (Alc. 8%) (Departed Soles - Philoso-Rapper) Smell: Caramel malt. Dry hay. Spices and faint stone fruit. Taste: Caramel malt and wet hay. Faint spice and smokiness, with even fainter stone fruit. Overall, a tasty Belgian hybrid. Yummy, but a bit too sweet. And a somewhat fitting, but too funny to pass up, pic:
Alrighty, I've wasted some time since I finished the previous beer. But it's time to get back to business! 3rd beer! (Alc. 10%) (Otter Creek - Russian Imperial Stout) Smell: Black coffee and dark chocolate notes sing out first. Smoky wood follows along. Caramelized malt sweetens up the overall olfactory senses. Taste: The sweet malt twirls about with bittersweet mocha. Smoky wood flavor weaves through the whole experience. With a hint of cracker, stronger at the end. Overall, not bad, but a little on the sweet side. The smoky flavor is nice, but also a bit heavier than needed. I wouldn't run from this by any means, but I wouldn't seek it out for an awesome experience either.
I've just been sipping on a local beer lately - Brewery 85 Quittin Time. A Helles Bock I've been too lazy to venture out to a craft store, they sell it at the gas station near my house lol. They sell a few craft beers at this gas station. I counted last time I was there, 9 craft beers. 8 out of 9 are IPAs Gas station fail :/
Good news: local craft brews are becoming more popular nationwide, and taking over shelf space formally belonging to Anheuser Busch and Coors. Bad news: many of those local craft beers have been bought out by corporate beer giants that make domestic crappy beer.
Too early for pumpkin beers? Dafuq says?? The first is Horseheads Pumpkin Ale from Horseheads Brewing out of Horseheads, NY. This is perhaps thee best pumpkin ale I have had. It puts Southern Tier's Pumking to shame, fo realz. The second beer is La Parcela, a SOUR pumpkin ale from Jolly Pumpkin. Awesome stuff, and my first sour pumpkin ale.
interesting.. would like to try that. ya to early for pumpkin here. nothing on the shelves just yet. saw some october beer ..
I can't bring myself to start drinking pumpkin beers yet. It's still 90 degrees here. It ruins the experience for me. I've just been drinking my own urine lately.
Drinking Strawberry Whale Cake From Burlington Beer Co. out of Vermont -- a cream ale brewed with strawberries. Just one of the many beers I've had today.
