Best beer name I've come across recently Red Hare's Watership Brown Ale. I love the literary reference. It was pretty good too. And the art work on the can was cool. Sometimes I pick beers solely for the artwork and I have no shame in it
I think im already 'saturated' (if that's the word) where it comes to such references in beer names and the fancy artwork on the can/bottle labels. Half of the time it is better than the beer itself. Creative...? Not so much either. I feel they're just references to stuff the brewer loves.. and if its like a reference to a great book and i get intrigued because i digged the book, ah well... got disappointed too often already that way i guess. Not the way for me to select some special brews!
I admit that in my naive days Pliny the Elder would have intrigued me... Now the name would only make me wanna read the info on the label at best. And if i really like what's on there i might give it a try and buy one
What about classy individuals with highly refined taste, such as GlenGlen and moi, who don't particualrly care for beer. Seriously though, this is a thread for drinkers of all kinds. With that being said, Gin Maaaaare
Okay, the above post is still relevant (kind of) but I couldn't pass this up last night: A cucumber, lime and habanero infused lager. I love LA!
You didn't think I'd let International Beer Day go by without dropping by, did you? Of course I wouldn't! So, tonight I have 3 beers. From Belgium, Germany and the UK. First up, the heavy from Belgium: (Alc. 12%) (Brouwerij 't Gaverhopke - 't Gaverhopke Extra) (Possibly also known as "Den Twaalf") Smellin: Smoky wood and sweet malt. Some charcoal and vanilla notes. And a yeast-borne bite on the edges. Tastin: Charcoal and sweet malt show up first, followed by funky bite. The end rounded out with a soft whiskey burn dancing with faint vanilla. Overallin, this is a tasty brew. A little sweet, but evened out by the slight afterburn. Somewhat thick body, with tiny-bubbled and light carbonation. (And now I have about 3 pages to catch up on...)
Good question... they don't deliver to my state and I'm not sure where you are, so I couldn't check just now. But yeah, it's pretty good. I think I shoulda given it 4.25 stars on Untappd instead of 4, but whatcha gonna do? *shrug* I just finished mine and now will be moving on to... hmm... ...maybe the cream stout from the UK. Probably yeah, most definitely. Post on that one coming soonish!
Also, for everyone (Nox, PR, et al), the thread just naturally drifted towards beer reviews. Probably my fault. But by ALL MEANS, please feel free to post whatever crazy shit you want to... or just fun or interesting. Or whatever! The Kick Box is like a junk drawer. Even if it seems like a... drunk... drawer. Huh? *nudge nudge* Good one, eh?
Ok, on to the second beer of the night. The beer: (Alc. 6.5%) (St. Peter's - Cream Stout) Smell: Cracker and prune-ish sweet malt waft strongly. Coffee notes feature (vaguely) as well. Dark vanilla lurks beneath the surface. Bittersweet chocolate swims about as well. Taste: Bittersweet smoky coffee, akin to espresso. A bit of prune/raisin textures the experience. Underneath, the tiniest vanilla wisp. Overall, another tasty brew. My overall taste is of smoky espresso with a single shaving of dark chocolate to line it, just barely sweetened with prune/raisin sugar. Fairly thick, but thinner edges. Bonus related pic:
Geez... it's been two hours since my last post?!? Shit, I'm going slower than I want to! Anyshits, let's get this review kickin... The beer: (Alc. 7.4%) (Weihenstephaner - Korbinian) The smell: Sweet malt. Lightly smoky wood. A yeast inspired vanilla bite. The taste: Raisins, smoky wood, vanilla. Somehow, pretzels are in there. And at the end, a light yeast nibble on the jaw. The overall, is that this is another tasty beer. My description might be a bit off, but it's the best I could figure. I'm not used to doppelbocks, so maybe that's why I had a hard time pinning down the taste, but still... a hefty and pleasing beer. (Now I want pretzels)
