Picked up a devils backbone collaboration pack. First one is with o'conners. I will say this...PR would love it. It's called tides de Mars Bier de Mars ale. 6.1% 21 ibu's Not sure what they were going for but they got a sour tasting ale that smells like cider and sips like water.
I took guinness foreign stout to the concert. i snuck in with a wine canteen, just a six . im driving but I drunk long time ago, now sobering up with food and shit.
Next Colab is with mad fox. I been there also and they are pretty good. This is a classic Irish stout. 4.6% 39 ibu's Taste is more like a black ipa. A nice dry taste and perfect mouth feel but there is a hint of that same source taste from the first beer. The only common denomination is DB. But I had several of their beers and never tasted that before. Overall B-. First one was a C.
Next Colab is with parkway brewing. They only just started getting it on this side of the bay. I only liked the ones that were a style I prefer. This one is called sixth circle. A sour ipa. 5.7% and 19 ibu's Also the best source I can recall atm. Ironic that this is the best so far considering the thing I didn't like about the first 2 were that they had a sour taste. This is a good fruity sour though.
Next up is a Colab with three notch'd Crystall Brett A Brett beer with crystal hops. 5.5% 26 ibu's Never heard of the brewery...at least that I can recall. No sour taste. I am glad of that only because I was worried I got a bad batch or something. However it would have improved this piece of crap. I will say this is better than a coors or high life but not by much. I would rather have a flavorless Michelobe than this thing that I apologize for not being able to explain the nasty aftertaste that I am getting. It's something I never had before. Best I can explain is its like a fresh skunk beer.
I actually find it seriously unfortunate that a large part of the beer drinkers are talking as gay about good beer as only those wine fans were typically known for. Ooh i taste peppers and dark chocolate, this beer is the best! Uhm please just get a triple and enjoy beer as it is supposed to!
Lol I like reading beer reviews, but sometimes I wonder how beer connoisseurs pull all those flavors out of their ass in their reviews. I'm sure the obvious answer to any connoisseur is my palette isn't well developed, that's probably true enough..but I can pick out some flavors, it isnt totally undeveloped. I can tell an excellent beer from a mediocre one, I just have no idea how to go about describing it as having "a slight hint of cracker, a faint nuttiness, a hint of lemongrass with an aftertaste of some really rare herb no beer drinker has ever actually tasted or smelled." I suspect such reviews arent always the result of a well developed palette but a well developed sense of pretension
"...the pleasure of this beer doesn't fade after one glass or two..." My favorite beer from my college days. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAQPKz7ki8E
Why don't you start a beer discussion/review thread? I think that would be interesting. I really want to try a sour beer, but am hesitant to spend the money on one, in case I don't like it. I know that seems silly, but when I have 10 bucks I could spend on a beer, I am inclined to purchase one that I know I will like (although I try new ones every time, but within the same general type), rather than something completely different than my usual profile.
th8s is our beer discussion thread.. the what are you drinking died with non alcoholic drinks.. the kick box is the booze take box...
Sours are pretty great, I just tried my first sour a few months ago and they're definitely one of my favorite styles now Do you have a craft beer store nearby that lets you do a mix and match 6 pack? This is how I usually end up trying new beers
great lakes hop madness.. sweeter than I thought it be.. its got the label saying it has bite but I didnt find any.. mellow, fruity notes..
Saisons, gose and sours (not really sure exactly what differentiates them as goses (geese?? Lol) are sour, I guess something about the brewing process), and pale ale..that's what I've been sticking to this summer. And in cold weather I like stouts, porters, brown ales What about you?
I haven't branched out as far as you have. I like a lot of belgian style white beers, saisons, and other similar beers. I don't like IPA. I like some stouts. I'm essentially a wine enthusiast who is also attempting to branch into craft beer . I love anything by dogfish head that I have tried--especially their fruit or herb beers.
