Reich-wing figures who spread disinformation about the attack included Roger Stone, Dinesh D'Souza, and Steve Bannon, all of whom implied that the attack could be a "false flag". Elon Musk shared a tweet falsely suggesting that the attack resulted from a drunken Paul Pelosi having a fight with a male prostitute, a bit of homophobic nastiness echoed by Republican congressman Clay Higgins (R, LA), Republican congresswomen Marjorie Taylor Greene (R, GA), and Claudia Tenney (R, NY), as well as Donald Trump Jr. and David Clarke Jr. Days after the attack, former president Donald Trump also spread false conspiracy theories about the attack, suggesting it could have been staged. Trump Jr. responded by joking about a Halloween "costume" of just a hammer and a pair of white briefs.
24% of Republicans believe that violence is acceptable to achieve their political objectives; the textbook definition of terrorism. If 24% doesn't sound like a lot, that's 26,528,760 Americans. If only 1% of those would actually take up arms, that's still 265,287 violent people who wish you harm based upon your political beliefs.
