I had an International Scout on St Thomas for a while. It was stout. Survived a few crashes and kept on running... but getting parts for it was a challenge. Very well built I must say.

As I said, a checkered past... all kinds of characters from Indiana!

Are you anywhere near Bedford? I have good friends there who make a living playing music...

They were tough as Sherman tanks! My best friend had one and we went all over in it. His had the 304 motor which did have enough power. The early models had 4 bangers, which were shy on the highway but still good off the road.

No, Bedford is in the south part of the state. I'm near Auburn and Fort Wayne, just south of Michigan and just west of the Ohio line..

Mine was the four cylinder variety... on the island the top speed is 35 miles per hour! No freeways man :) Longest straight stretch anywhere was just 1/4 mile and they made sure there were lots of potholes to keep us young 'uns from speeding too fast.

"A poll today by the Associated Press (AP) and the National Opinion Research Center (NORC) shows that President Joe Biden’s administration is gaining positive traction. Sixty-three percent of Americans approve of how he is handling his job as president. Seventy-one percent approve of how he is handling the coronavirus pandemic; 62% percent approve of how he is handling health care. Fifty-seven percent approve of how he is handling the economy; 54% approve of how he is handling foreign affairs.

Fifty-four percent of Americans think the country is going in the right direction. This is the highest number since 2017, but it is split by party: 84% of Democrats like the country’s direction, while only 20% of Republicans do.

Biden’s weak spots are in immigration, where 43% approve and 54% disapprove, and gun policy, where 48% approve and 49% disapprove.

And yet, Biden’s people have been working to address the influx of migrant children; White House Secretary Jen Psaki noted last week that “At the end of March, there were more than 5,000 children in Customs and Border Protection Patrol stations. Today, that number is approximately 600…. The amount of time children spend in CBP facilities is down by 75 percent — from 131 hours at the end of March to under 30 hours now.”

The administration has backed that short-term work with a long-term initiative. Last week, Vice President Kamala Harris met virtually with Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the leader of the left of center populist nationalist coalition party MORENA, to talk about finding ways to promote economic development to address the root causes prompting the flight of refugees from Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and southern Mexico. They also talked about working together to protect human rights and dismantle the criminal networks that smuggle migrants. She will travel to Guatemala and Mexico in June, where she will meet with their leaders.

Disapproval of Biden’s gun policies might well reflect a desire for a stronger stance. In April, a Morning Consult/Politico poll showed that 64% of registered voters supported stricter gun control laws. We have had an average of ten mass shootings a week in 2021, 194 in all. (A mass shooting is one in which four people are killed or wounded.)"

    Daily Presidential Tracking Poll

    Monday, May 10, 2021

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows that 50% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President Biden’s job performance. Forty-eight percent (48%) disapprove.

The latest figures include 32% who Strongly Approve of the job Biden is doing and 41% who Strongly Disapprove. This gives him a Presidential Approval Index rating of -9. (see trends)

Approval of Biden's presidential performance peaked in mid-February, when his total approval reached 53% versus 43% total disapproval.

Interesting that the media aren't more vocal in their disapproval of Joe Biden's presidency. You'd think after Trump they'd be onto him - oh wait, he's the polar opposite of Trump. Got it...

I am so very grateful that Joe is in office, but man, someone needs to kick him in the ass and tell him to shake off the old man stuff. Any little blip, stutter, slip, or "uhhhh" senior moment they're just waiting to crucify him. Like stumbling up the stairs to AF1. You are the leader of the free world and have staff to tell you not to wear slippery shoes - or even have any - and to hold on to a railing on a 45 degree incline in the rain. You can't have any slips on anything public - that is the job. Use scripted speeches, that is why you have writers and advisors. PUT OUT SOME DAMN GOOD PRESS. There's 90% more press on what the crazies are doing now than what he's accomplishing. Trump did all kinds of stupid hateful shit and and made asinine statements daily but everyone expected him to do it and were immune to his lunacy. Joe just needs to do better - no, he needs to be best. Oh, and Kamala, let's get serious and quit that giggle every time you have an important conversation, this is life or death of the Democrats.

Oh, absolutely, by far, Joe is a Godsend. And so will President Harris. Maybe Cheeto Jesus will drop like a rock before 2024.

I wish folks could give the ageism a rest. Biden's done more good in 4 moths than that Mussolini-wanna-be did in four years. Considering the alternatives, you might want to stop parroting Fox News talking points ("Sleepy Joe", really?).

I'm just hoping Joe can keep his momentum going. He's accomplished more in his first week in office than Velveeta Voldemort had all term. Send out some press on it. Tell people A, B, and C what you are doing today with the border crisis and how Trump policies encouraged it. Show people exactly what you are doing to fix the pandemic, not let Donnie's pathetic 'warp speed' payoffs get credit. Show people how you are fixing the economy, exactly, and why and how what you are doing is helping. If he doesn't toot his own horn, the crazies will toot theirs. If the 'conservatives' can buy FOX, then spend some fucking money on other networks - money is all they listen to. Maybe we can reincarnate FDR.

The chip shortage happened because we let it happen and tech companies were incentivized to move their fabs overseas. TSMC Taiwan fabs about half the world's silicon. If a bomb went off there, the world would end worse than with COVID. But we let this happen - they, China and Korea tech are pretty much funded by their governments. Meanwhile, the US can't even make semiconductors in the US to go into military secret programs.

Cannot buy gas here in NC. There's a photo of a guy filling up ten 5-gallon gas cans in his SUV. Nah, no panic here.

When the Governor declared a State of Emergency and advised everyone to NOT fill up their gas tanks because the state was about to run out of gasoline, it was clear that he wanted a run on gasoline. He got one.

    and meanwhile here in floriduh
7 States Experience Gas Shortages From Pipeline Outage — But Experts Warn Against Panic Buying (forbes.com)

While most states are experiencing shortages from the pipeline outage, fuel shortages in Florida could stem from panic buying; the state has been mostly unaffected by Colonial’s outage, yet AAA spokesperson Mark Jenkins told the Tallahassee Democrat consumers are “actually creating the shortage of gasoline” because they are “seeing reports about the Colonial Pipeline outage and are rushing to the pump.”

I filled up, and a 6 gal can, too. We've been waiting for an appointment with a specialist for months now, and I'm going to make damned sure we can get to Chattanooga and back Thursday.
