as those who read my previous posts surely know, i hate to death mr. Berlusconi. he impersonates the perfect opposite of all the things i stand for, he's carrying on an open war against democracy and does very little to disguise his blatant fascism. José Saramago also has something to say about our first national disgrace:

The Berlusconi Thing by José Saramago

I don’t know what other name I could give it. It’s a thing that looks dangerously like a human, a thing that throws parties, that organises orgies and rules a country called Italy. This thing, this illness, this virus threatens to become the cause of the moral death of Verdi’s country. If a deep vomit doesn’t succeed in ejecting it from the consciousness of Italians, the poison will end up corroding the veins and destroying the heart of one of Europe’s richest cultures. The basic values of human coexistence are trampled daily by the viscous feet of the Berlusconi thing; amongst its many talents, it has a funambulesque ability to abuse words, perverting their intention and meaning, as in the case of the People of Freedom, the name given to the party with which the thing took power. I’ve called the thing delinquent and I don’t regret it. For semantic and social reasons that others will be able to explain better than I can, the term delinquent has in Italy a much stronger connotation than it has in any other language spoken in Europe. I use the meaning given to the term by Dante’s language in order to translate clearly and forthrightly what I think about the Berlusconi thing—though it is more than doubtful that Dante ever used the term. In my Portuguese, and according to the dictionaries and the current practice of communication, delinquency means ‘the act of committing crimes, disobeying laws or moral codes’. This definition fits the Berlusconi thing without a wrinkle, without any jarring, to the point that it seems more like a second skin than the clothes that the thing puts on itself. For years and years the Berlusconi thing has been committing crimes of a variable but always demonstrated seriousness. It’s outrageous that it not only disobeys laws, but worse, it invents them to safeguard its public and private interests as politician, businessman and the companion of minors. Where the moral codes are concerned, it’s not even worth talking about it, there is not a person in Italy or the rest of the world that doesn’t know that the Berlusconi thing fell into the most abject of states a long time ago. This is the Italian prime minister, this is the thing that the Italian people have elected twice to serve them as a role model, this is the path to ruin which is dragging along the values of liberty and dignity that suffused Verdi’s music and the political actions of Garibaldi—the ones that, during the struggle for unification in the 19th century, made of Italy a spiritual guide for Europe and for Europeans. This is what the Berlusconi thing wants to throw into the rubbish bin of History. Will the Italians end up allowing this to happen?

another episode of ordinary Italian shamelessness

among the general indifference of this mockery of a country called Italy, currently mourning for the soccer defeat (bunch of idiots. not the soccer players, my fellow countrymen), berlusconi , after some of his whores made a minister of one of his dearest friends, mr. Brancher. In fact berlusconi had to make up a new ministry in order to grant Brancher a seat: he opted for "minister for the actuation of federalism" (what ???) The big news is that, since berlusconi passed a law (so called "legitimate hindrance") allowing ministers to skip criminal trials, now this Brancher guy which was jailed once for accounting forgery, financial fraud and corruption , convicted with two verdicts but saved by limitation and decriminalization of both charges by intervention of berlusconi who changed the laws to this effect, is safe form the trials that he should face, now over a theft charge. so berlusconi once again saved one of his buddies from the cruel clutches of evil commie judges.

Today, mr Brancher tried his new toy invoking the "legitimate hindrance" in courts because "he has to do a lot of work" (actuating federalism is a very delicate task. no one has the least idea of what a "minister for the actuation of federalism" is expected to do since never was one before so I guess he has a point...)
    which in plain words means:
«Goodbye you pathetic moronic judges. you thought you could jail me but my influent friend Berlusconi is more powerful than italian law itself and gave me this magic shield that will allow me to drag the times of my trial on and on and on, always with the same pretext of hindrance, until the statute of limitations will apply, so one more time, fuck you ! hAhahHAhAHAHAAHAHhahaAHHAH !!!»

not yet, but in change we had a maxi riot involving about 100 among filoisraeli roman jews and palestinian refugees right in front of the Capitol, and soon chains, knives and brass knuckles appeared. this required intervention from the riot police. agencies say that the troubles started when twenty men with motorcycle helmets and knuckle-dusters assaulted a mixed group of protesting palestinian people including elder ones and children, wounding many. the episode caused an immediate opposite reaction of the same kind. while the jewish group held a police permission for demonstrating, the palestinian obviously couldn't obtain one  so I assume that now the police will arrest the wounded ones, all palestinian, right into the hospitals and maybe if there is some illegal immigrant among them , the italian police will murder them or leave them agonize in jail before expelling them. oh, did you know that in Italy paperless immigrants can be jailed without charge nor term in lagers where gravely ill people is left to die without medical care, hence bloody revolts are commonplace, but never hit our gagged and bound media ? and that even italian citizens may be beaten up and left to starve and die in jail, hospitals, barracks and mental institutions for a mere accuse of driving under the influence of alcohol ? a school teacher was sent to a mental asylum just because of that and died in a week. things like this happen all the time.

to be honest i hope that, no matter the reason, someone starts demolishing this pig pen country of mine from the basement so we can build a new more decent one.
