    Bump if you can't sleep.

I fell asleep for a solid two hours and now, after waking up from a bad dream, I can't seem to fall back asleep. Even though I'm so, so tired.

I fucking hate not being able to sleep. My alarm is set to go off in 4 hours so I can get an early workout in, but I don't see myself going to the gym until later, unless I can get back to sleep in the next short while. Ugh, what a drag.

Yes insomnia sucks. I was dependent on sleeping pills for a long time. Sometimes I still need to take one if I have an early morning ahead of me and I need the sleep. The problem is often I wake up feeling more tired than I did going to bed, and then I say fuck it and just lay in bed.

That sucks ash I hope you got back to sleep! I'm a pretty regular insomnia sufferer. I have no tips though, otherwise I would be a former insomnia sufferer...

I started having this issue awhile back and smoking puts me back to sleep but I'm not much of a fan of using things to put me to sleep. Ah well.

These useless over-the-counter sleeping pills aren't working!! Damn it, why did I agree to work an extra shift on the weekend?! I hate my safety-net job and life in general.

I do make use of it, when I have to work next day I have to get up hours earlier than usual and I have to concentrate as I am driving. So I have to get enough sleep otherwise I'm a danger on the road. Because I have to get up hours earlier it's good to get a bit earlier into bed too. Which would be wasted hours lying awake if I didn't smoke a doobie or 2. Now I sleep like a baby. Usually pretty tired after my job though :p

I had a shitty sleep last night. I laid awake until 3am, then I moved to the couch, where I fell asleep almost instantly.

That is a little trick I have - If I can't fall asleep in my bedroom, a change of scene usually does it.

Melatonin usually does it for me.

I have trouble sleeping when I am anxious. Often, I don't feel anxiety for the entire day, and then when I'm trying to fall asleep, I get bombarded with intrusive thoughts. The thoughts are like half-dreams, and I wake up with a racing heart or spinning head. That can go on for hours. Usually accompanied by restless legs and periods of waking up and staring at the ceiling. No fun.

I have difficulty falling asleep if I'm just laying there in the dark, but if I read a book i am out within 5 minutes. This really only works if you live with someone who can turn the light off for you, because sleeping with the light on isnt good for you. It also means i have to go to bed before my boyfriend every single night, or else sleep on the couch. If I go to bed after him i'll just lay in the dark for hours - if he's snoring those hours will be spent thinking of creative ways to kill him.

I dunno why reading works for me, you would think it would keep my brain alert, but it works way better than ambien.

I WISH I could read my book before bed....I can only really read in the morning or afternoon, when my brain is fully alert and I am nice and awake. Otherwise I can't focus on or absorb what I am reading.

You could try getting a little bedside lamp on a timer....

My husband had a snoring issue about a year ago. I was sleeping on the couch at least 3 days a week as a result. It sucked. He went to a bunch of sleep specialists and got a ton of tests done, and had to sleep with this machine thingy attached to him for 4 weeks, so they could run some tests.

You know what did the trick for him? Literally losing 5 pounds. That is it. I starting sleeping with earplugs, though, and now I can't fall asleep without them.

i pretty much never have any trouble falling asleep. i'm usually so tired by bedtime, that i'm more worried about falling asleep at the computer or on the couch (both of which have been known to happen).

but, when i have shit on my mind, i tend to wake up after about 3 hours of sleep and just think uncontrollably for at least 2-3 hours before i can go back to sleep. i always do eventually manage to go back to sleep, but too late to get a decent night's sleep by that point. of course, that's been happening a lot lately, so i've been pretty much constantly exhausted.

    Bump :(

I don't know what is going on with me! I slept fine over the weekend, excellently, actually. Now I'm going onto night three of not being able to fall asleep very well. I'm frustrated! I want to sleep so I can get up early and get shit done. I guess I could take a gavel and knock myself out, but I hate to do that.

I thought only getting about 5 hours last night would reset me for tonight and I'd be able to sleep without any issues.

I have been in the process of reorganizing my bedroom, so maybe that's part of the problem, and I won't be able to fully relax until that project is done. It's not like my bedroom is a cluttered mess, though. If it were cluttered, then I could see how that could cause restlessness.

    Okay, I'm officially rambling.

    In any event, how annoying.

    So annoying, eh?

    I am actually sleepy.

I suppose I should put my iPad down, that might help.

If my husband wasn't asleep, I'd turn on one of the music video channels. That other thread got it on my mind.
