I just realized that the ice cream truck always plays the same few bars of a song that sounds like it came from a wind up music box, and has been playing it for years, decades probably. Is there a name for this song, did somebody write that music just for the ice cream?
The ice cream van doesn't come around near me. Too many rules: Code of Practice on Noise from Ice-Cream Van Chimes Etc. in England 2013 Playing time 5.1. The passage of music played should not last more than 12 seconds. Where the mechanism contains a timed cut-out device which can automatically limit the playing time to 12 seconds or less, it should be used. Frequency 6.1. The chimes should be played once only on the approach to each stopping place (or ‘selling point’), only once when the van is stationary, and never at intervals of less than 2 minutes. 6.2. The chimes should not be played more often than once every 2 hours in a particular length of street.2 6.3. The chimes should not be played when in sight of another van (whether moving or stationary) which might reasonably be taken to be in the street for trading purposes. 6.4. Subject to those considerations, the chimes should be played only as often as is necessary to let customers know that the commodity is on sale from the vehicle. Use of chimes in sensitive areas 7.1. The chimes should not be played in areas where people may be especially sensitive to their sound. In particular they should not be played: a. within 50 metres of any hospital or similar institution; b. within 50 metres of a school during school hours; c. within 50 metres of a place of worship on a Sunday or other recognised day of worship. https://www.gov.uk/government/uploa...t_data/file/245699/pb14030-ice-cream-vans.pdf
i thought they were mostly different tunes, the one near me plays greensleeves, which is a bit ponderous and mournful for ice cream, i think.
this one time I took acid and the freight train sounded like a wind up music box.. I miss audio distortions..
That's interesting, odon. Didn't know there were laws for that but should have known cuz there are laws for everything lol
When we were kids there was no sweeter sound every summer than the ice cream truck :2thumbsup: Hotwater
And then you would see the Swans truck pull up to somebodies house and be like dammmmmm jealous as hell
That was just a snippet. To be fair, I doubt many stick to those 'rules' (Code of Practice) - they are not laws as far as I can tell. It probably gets 'policed' about as much as when people cycle on the pavement. I was just being a little daft. They don't have them around near me because it's predominantly students/younger people rather than families with young children. There are probably one to many other places you can buy ice-cream from, too. It's a shame, I liked the familiarity of it when I was a kid.
I don't think I've seen one in a LONG time (last I can remember is the movie "Friday" lol)...I just hear the music sometimes...one little hint of warmer weather and they out making money from it.
Around where I live, we have a truck called "Billy's" and whatever the little annoying tinker box song it plays, makes me (and other adults) want to EFF Billy up....and it makes the little kids go crazy, begging their parents for ice cream money. ...he knows what he's doing >:\
I used to buy this ice cream in a waffel cone and I don't know if I just bigger and older but they appear so small now. Same as a McDonald's cheeseburger. I think everything has shrunk in size.
I remember once I bought those candy cigarettes at the ice cream truck and this lady thought I was smoking real cigarettes and she called my parents
Did yours sound anything like this? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjjexmdXK_s"]Westerwald Marsch - YouTube :leaving:
The only thing that didnt shrink was their bank accounts. McFlurry=BULLSHIT!! It used to be freaking amazing.
I've honestly never seen one in Deutschland. I definitely remember them in Australia and we called him Mr Whippy probably because of whipped cream.
