In no case did the Devil become invented for the purpose of slaughter and war, that was just a side effect of countless peoples living in dualisms with small vision. In this way the devil is less a symbol, or even as clear as the pictures thereof, but rather the devil is what runs rampant without reason in the human condition. That people can envision devils so clearly means that they are fully aware of devils within and the hopelessness of trying to correct course amidst inert people. Same thing then as now. The devil is the one who stands between you and what you want. that will never change. What it says when a religion touts a superior devil all full of guile is that the people are superior devils all full of wile. IE., point the finger first at yourself. The devil is the casuality of looking outside oneself for problems and solutions. There's no reason listening to further and less lucid propagandizing from a Youtube preacher. The real truth of the devil is that there isn't one, just as there isn't a God. In each case people are baffled, in the former case, by bullshit, and in the latter, by brilliance. In no case does a devil or god amount to clearer understanding or superior ability to correct course. Time prooves that the human race only can be prodded away from a course of disaster only once humans perceive a devil to fight against. But in no case is the devil anything other than people.
I have no disagreement with your last paragraph nor does the video contradict anything you said but the one sentence about purpose. You might not believe this but there are occasionally youtube videos that are actually intelligent. Please watch the video before jumping to conclusions. This is not a paranoid youtuber nutjob talking to a camera, this is a BBC/SBS Australia production documentary backed by universities and historians. On the subject of religion I highly recommend watching the QualiaSoup youtube channel. These videos are probably the most intelligent and reasonable videos I've ever seen.
Humanity's creation of the devil has never been anything more than a scapegoat due to man being unable to accept responsibility for his actions.
i don't even have to be an athiest to completely agree with that. invisible things are what(ever) they are. what we pretend to know about them, including every name and characteristic we've invented to describe them, is our own pretending. religious textual references to devils or a the devil, or by whatever name, whether christ,s sermon on the mount, or baha'u'llah's 'evil whisperer that whispers in men's brests, are about debates with our own ego.
