Well, this trend isn't really a new thing. I was noticing this all winter. Activity probably just fluctuates, though, and right now we're in one of the down times.
George, have you ever read Invisible Man? By Ralph Ellison? The reason I ask is because the main character gives a speech at the funeral of a black man who got shot by the police for no real reason, and the speech is supposedly fashioned after Marc Antony's. Kudos on my favorite line from any play ever.
Yeah, it's just downtime... I know that I wouldn't be posting here at all if I was at college right now. Too much shit goes on in real life.
Et tu brute gives me shivers, but I understand. I love it just that much. I would totally stalk Shakespeare, but sometimes I do have the odd doubt that he didn't really exist. And no, haven't read any Ellison at all, for that matter, but the two do ring a bell.
He only really wrote one novel. Which is the greatest novel I've ever read. Ellison, I mean. You owe it to yourself to read Invisible Man, Georgie
You know, I just realized I never use that information desk deal when you go to Barnes & Noble. I've never used that thing. I always feel better when I search the entire store, picking up random books at the same time, that I never intended on reading, but they seem so juicy, that I must pick them up, then I finally find my book, at some point... This Ellison here seems to have a cliche-ish background, for the era (who could blame him), but I like all the old Homerized themes.
My British Lit professor (whom I hold in high esteem - smartest man I know) is absolutely convinced that Shakespeare never existed....he really thinks Christopher Marlowe is Shakespeare....I love some Marlowe, especially "Doctor Faustus"...great play ps.....I read Ellison's "Battle Royale".....great short story. Stirs up all kinds of emotions
Marlowe, puh-shaw. Even though Julius Caesar is the only piece of Shakespeare's work I can actually stand, I'd take him or Donne over Marlowe anyday. Jesus, Marlowe. There's actually a character named Homer A. Barbee in the novel. He's blind.
Yeah.... I... do really think Shakespeare didn't exist, more than doubtwise... mostly because, wtf, his works are so... the intervals between them, you know what I mean. If you have read several of his works you can really distinguishes all the peculiarities. I've been thinking about it for a few years now. I just feel like an idiot/insane to admit those things, sometimes.
